SCARY seat post
Was looking for a seat post for my Ironman in 27mm and came across this Campagnolo Nuovo post. Looks like when it breaks you can lay on the side of the road and bleed to death. Item # 140662365562
For the much more computer literate, could some one post a link. I am not the computer wizz-bang type.

It looks more like a surgical instrument than a seat post. Weigh in, Drillium Dude...

Ok then, no need to worry!

that's a whole lot of stress risers. I wonder if it makes any cool sounds when the wind blows through it while riding? lol.

Strangely attractive - I think it's the lack of symmetry and it works. A little cleaning up of a couple of the round drillings and that would do it for me.
The seller is a heavy-hitter and a reliable, all-around good guy up here in Seattle: Bob Freeman of Elliott Bay Bicycles, home of Davidson Custom Bicycles. He's always got some neat esoterica. He brokered the garage-find R.O. Harrison and Holdsworth Whirlwind for Alex Moll.
If this wasn't so short, I'd call Bob up myself and see if he would end the auction early and sell to me

That is, without a doubt, the ugliest seat post I have ever seen. The workmanship seems off, also. Asymmetrical or just sloppy? None the less, I marked the page and I want to see what this seat post will fetch on Ebay.

incazzare.
I actually think it's really very nice looking. I'm not sure that I would ride it, but I disagree with those who think it's ugly or sloppy. To each their own, eh?

I have a drilled record post and they have a LOT of meat to them.
The wall thickness at the thin point I bet is still 3 times as thick as a modern Thompson.

The milling looks much less off center when viewed from the side.
Personally I think it's interesting, I sort of like it but no way I'd
ride it.

Not an easy part to machine for sure. The ends make it look like it was done as a side cut or with some type of chisel tool..

I'd ride it. The metal looks thick, and I only weigh 150lbs. Now, if I weighed 50lbs more then no way I'd sit on that.
But even what it's at now, $36, is too much for me, and it wouldn't really look good on any of my bikes.

I was racing during the drillium era, and used to joke that you could stroll a criterium course at the end of the day and gather up a sackful of broken Campy bits. That was an exaggeration, but there was some truth to it too.
So I think a post like that might be fun for an all-drillium wallhanger, but experience is telling me not to ride it.
Oh, and I agree with the folks who point out that this particular example doesn't exactly represent the highest level of the art...

I like it and for $36 it is worth it for the parts alone
