That absolutely rocks, no doubt.
I'm doing the Almonzo Gravel Road series this season, and this type of bike may be just the ticket.
I have an older Volpe frameset at the cabin, and maybe I'll just build that if I can't figure out a better solution.
This Schwinn would be a decent road map for a project.
Also, the Vittoria Cross Pros are a decent tire in the dry gravel, but a bit more of a handful in muck.
Comparable to a Ritchey Speedmax if you've tried those before.
Never had one single flat with mine though, which is a big plus when you are thirty miles from anything. imho

I would think raising the bars a bit would give you better access to the drops. The drops will give you a bit more leverage over rough terrain. You don't want a traditional road set up IMHO.

Maybe a shorter, higher angle stem might help? I'm imagining a stem with an angle like a Nitto Dirt Drop.

Yeah, a different stem would be ideal, the Ritchey I had already, so that's what went on for now. For the short-term, it'll probably see more MUP/neighborhood street/park grass type of terrain than real rough stuff, so what's on there will suffice for now. I'll keep my eye open for the right stem at the right price.

As luck would have it, scored a high-rise Profile Designs 100mm stem on eBay this morning at a reasonable price. Should be ideal for the Crosscut for when I start hitting the rougher stuff. Stem swaps are quick, so can easily go between the two depending on need.

Great build! I remeber looking at this model in our LBS, my wife went with a Schwinn Impact instead. I begged her to buy the crosscut. Still have the impact but wishing still it were a crosscut!

I've been in contact with Chris about doing a run of his Ramble route with him some soon. If he organizes an full on Spring Ramble I am so there, if not I'll wait for the Fall edition.
WNG, I agree. I need to clean it up first. Probably won't go to full khatfull polish levels, but at least want to take down the rough spots and put a brushed / light polish on it.

Looks great, i did practically the same exact thing you did with a 1990 Trek 930, frame powder coated, odered decals from VeloCals, and i even had the forks marred from the headset installation, great job, love the color!!

First major outing with the Crosscut since the rebuild. Drove out to Mineral Wells to ride the rails-to-trails Trailway between Mineral Wells and Weatherford, Tx. I opted to start at the Mineral Wells State Park, which cut a few miles off the full 20mi each-way length, and also threw in some fairly steep switch backs for the first 2/3mi till I reached the main trail. I had the trunk bag loaded down with my DSLR and second lens which made the thing a bit back-heavy but the bike handled well once I got down those switchbacks which I took quite gently considering the cargo. Once on the trailway I was able to easily maintain a nice pace, we had some showers the previous evening which helped keep the crushed limestone surface firm under the wheels. I'd opted to swap on a set of Clement LAS 700x33 tires that I picked up from CV-6 and they performed wonderfully for me. The trailway was nearly empty for most of the ride, a few more people close to the Weatherford trailhead, but still nearly completely empty. Exactly the type of ride I was needing.
More photos from the trailway and my 3-day road/bike/hike trip can be found here:

Hey Jon, Sounds like a great ride. You have some most excellent pictures there. Thanks for sharing.
I got my 22" CrissCross frame built up and I like the ride and ability to take the fatter tires but don't like the look of the really long stem being so high
to accommodate the h-bar height I prefer. I put it up on CL and will look for a taller frame for a future build of a bike similar to yours.
It's been fun to watch the progress from start of your project to first adventure on it.

Very nice build. Great job with the comparison shots of the Gazelle. Looks like you got it dialed in just right.
