Here is my too-small '76 TdF as it sits - (I think this was the only year for all-Reynolds and honeycomb Huret DOs)

That's gorgeous - nice to see a Gitane in a color other than blue. Any plans to build it up?

I've been tempted to build it up (even built a wheel set for it) but then I'd be stuck riding the hoods all the time. Anyway at the moment I have another project: If a larger TdF comes my way in the meantime, this will be gone. |

All original except tires and bar tape.

1971 TdF. I've subsequently made some changes, putting the original bars back on the bike and some Campy upgrades, but haven't shot new pics yet, so...

Is that a Vitus 980 sticker? http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...9&d=1326645376 |
Here's my 1969 Super Corsa
http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/...MG_4320_sm.jpg The bike makes an excellent randonneuse, it responds well to the front loading. And of course has clearance for fenders and bigger tires, so what's not to like? I restored it from a frame I found on CL. |
Here it is again since you asked for 64 Hosteller one of the rarest Gitanes.
Before. http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/...1/DSC00231.jpg After http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/...202/Larger.jpg |
There are some very, very nice bikes here. That '69 Super Corsa is quite special. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more photos of that one, for sure!
Here's my 1971 TdF in a photo from about 1980. http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/Gitane71.jpg Same bike, photo taken a few months ago. Fresh chainrings and Phil BB installed. Not much else changed. Which is to say that the only original part left on this bike are the crank arms. http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/IMG_3484.jpg And, also an older photo that needs refreshing: My 1971 Super Corsa. The original Brooks saddle that came on the bike new has gone back on. Otherwise, it's pretty close to "as the day it was sold new." http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/IMG_2036.jpg I need to take new photos. mea culpa. |

Another really beautiful Gitane. Not a familiar model name to me however. (Apparently I need to bone up on my Gitane taxonomy).

Here's my 1971 TdF in a photo from about 1980. Heres some older pictures taken right after I put it back together. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2611/4...462fa5bb_b.jpg The bar tape is actually from a bolt of fabric store 1" white cotton twill tape that I dyed Navy Blue with Rit, then applied coats of shellac. It has held up really well. The bars are still a little wet in the picture. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2764/4...1db_z.jpg?zz=1 http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2691/4...863f5cc9_b.jpg I never put the head badge on it because it originally had a silver foil covering over the entire head tube and I was going to duplicate it. But I never got to it, still have the decal :) http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2661/4...c01_z.jpg?zz=1 I had a local motorcycle custom painter do the spray and the detail pinstripe. He did a pretty good job. You all have such beautiful bikes! Jim |
Here's my repainted 1973 Gitane touring Tandem, made of the finest french stove pipe tubing.

Great bikes in here, So far I haven't managed to keep one but here are the few that passed through my garage over the last couple years.
This 1976 TdF stayed a short time and I was heartbroken that it was too small. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...DSC04114-1.jpg And the rest, http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC06352.jpg Built this for a friend that wanted a "rat" bike, http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC06080.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC03209.jpg |

A 1970's 500a "midget racer" I found for my daughter- 3 speed derailleur(!):
(that's a 700c wheeled road bike in the background ) http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...6023872_81.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...6023879_81.jpg Anyone know where I can get new stickers if I repaint it? |
Yes. Though that is a midget sized bike, very cute, by the way, the stickers look to be the same size as used on the standard frames. See the purple bike above. Those stickers came from Greg Softley, also known as Cyclomondo on ebay. He has them. Personally though, I don't see why you'd want to repaint it. "They're only original once."
