Questions about my new Colnago Master PIU

Today I became the proud owner of a Colnago Master PIU bike with the Decor paint scheme. I don't know what year (90s) it is exactly and have not been able to find catalogs for that time period. I also have not been able to find a serial number database for Colnago models.

Here is some info on my bike:
It has full Dura Ace gruppo model 7700. I don't know if it is original but think it is. It has an all chrome fork with straight blades. It has Columbus Profilo S4 steel frame. Nitto Dynamic 11 stem.

What I am looking for is help with catalogs, serial number database or other methods of identifying the year. I am also curious of the Colnago hierarchy in the 90s. I have no idea where this bike falls in the hierarchy and would like to know. Thanks for any help you can provide.

your best bet for finding a date is to post lots of good pics. I believe those bikes usually come as frame and a 'kit' so a catalog may only have frames and examples.

I am adding some pictures. The bike hasn't been cleaned up at all and the pictures aren't that great but they may help identify the the year.

Congratulations on your pick up from our local CL.

...and greetings from a fellow St. Paulite.

I posted this bike here yesterday on our "looking for ways to spend money" thread.

I love the color scheme, and it's fairly close to my 1993 Colnago Elegant.

FWIW I brought back a Master Piu from Bayern three years ago for a buddy. His is a 1989 or so, and had a brilliant white, yellow, orange, and red scheme.

It looks like yours has Gilco shaped tubes and appears to be in very nice, highly restorable condition.

If you are interested, we have a group of 5 riders that have Colnagos in the Twin Cities, and you are certainly welcome to ride with us anytime.

So is anyone for that matter.

Here's a link to another very nice Master Piu with a similar build and color scheme.

Not mine, but I wish it would be.

https://velospace.org/node/20514

...and check the paint on this one.

Nice hearing from you. The bike on velospace looks exactly like mine. Mine also has the S4 (Gilco) tubing. Where in St. Paul are you located? I am on Lincoln near Fairview. I will have to keep in touch with you to get in some rides with you guys once it warms up. I am not a winter rider and all my bikes are skinny tire.

Awesome!

I'm a half mile away near St. Kates.

I'd love to see your new Master Piu sometime.

Maybe coffee, as we only have twenty-some shops to choose from in the neighborhood.

Are you another Grand Performance fan?

Been in there quite a few times as I am two blocks away. I saw your photos. You have some very nice bikes. I just got the fever this past year so I am just starting to add some nicer bikes. As of now I am going to keep my 73 Raleigh Grand Sports (kinda rare), my 85 Miele Condor, my 88 Centurion Iron Man Dave Scott 'Miami Vice' and my Colnago. I am a sucker for buying a bike when I can get it cheap. I will probably get rid of the Centurion and Miele as I upgrade. I have a basement full of bikes I am going to dump in the spring. My daughter has an 86 Basso Gap and an 84 Raleigh Team Professional. With the Colnago I am catching up.

You can contact Colnago through their website. If you provide the serial number, they may get back to you with the year and model.

Best,

Lee

Thanks!

I have a friend that lives on Wellesley that has a Colnago Arabesque, a C50, a Titanio, and a Master.

He'd love to see your new Piu. So would I.

We are doing a reno on a 1978 Super, and I have a couple of other Colnagos as well.

Sounds like you have the same bicycle acquisition issue as many of us on the forum.

You'll fit right in.

Let me know if you want to get together and talk bikes this winter.

Oh, Gary Fountain or Picchio Special will eventually id your Colnago if were lucky!

Have no doubt about that.

I looked at the picture again of the Master Piu on Velospace you sent. My bike is different in a couple ways. Both of the chain stays are chrome on mine, the seat stays are chrome and the brake cable routing is different. Mine has the cable enter on the bottom of the top tube and exit on the top of the top tube. The paint scheme is the same though. The best that I can figure out is that it is a 93 or 94.

There were quite a few similarities between my buddies' Master and the Master Piu I brought back from Bayern.

Lots in common with my Elegant as well.

We'll have to get together one of these days and compare some of the Colnagos.

I have three here you can take a look at if you'd care to.

Main difference is Gilco vs. EL/EL-OS.

PS I just picked up a ti Grammo for this baby locally today!

..and I got a great deal on a set of black Master 22s.

I'm a happy man.

There is a Colnago on ebay right now for $450. It looks like a Super. It is a mix of components but I would still buy it if I wouldn't end up in divorce court.
