Kansas City/Overland Park bike shops
I'll be in the area mid-April and I would like to visit a bike shop or two.
Or a co-op.
Or a classic sports car dealer!
What do you recommend for this area?
I'll be traveling with my oldest son's soccer team and a guy can only watch so much soccer.
In fact, I may be asking this quite a bit this spring and summer.
He has seven out of state tournaments, coast to coast.

I've been to Wagner's Classic Cars in Bonner Springs Kansas a few miles west of KC and about 23 miles Northwest of Overland Park. There also is Vintage Vettes on the North side of KC.

Arthur Bryant's is good, but I prefer Oklahoma Joe's. Also Jack Stack Barbecue if you want more of a "white tablecloth" type of meal.
Pace Bicycle has some nice vintage stuff. You need to call ahead as he doesn't keep regular hours. The shop is in Independence, MO about 30 minutes from Overland Park.
What's your hometown? My son used to travel with soccer a lot and we always had fun in Memphis particularly.

Thanks everyone!
Two tournaments in Wisconsin, two in Iowa, one tentative in New York, and a tentative in Texas. One more to be named.
Kansas City is confirmed as well.
We are hoping some of these get swapped for tournaments in Minnesota. Less money and no overnight travel costs.
He's a premiere level player for a club based here in the Twin Cities. He also plays on a tourney only team.
The good news is he is very good at soccer.
That is also the bad news, as there is a great deal of travel.
Last summer he played in tournements in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.
Next summer, he has been invited to play with his cousin's club team in Bayern.
As you might imagine, this keeps us busy and broke.

OK, if you're coming to my city, arguably THE capital of barbecue (apologies to all the pretenders out there) and the home of the Tour de BBQ in June, you simply can't stop at one barbecue joint. Arthur Bryant's is where the presidents all eat when they come to town and it's good stuff. Gates is also a great and historically important barbecue - we still ship bottles of their sauce to our friends in Alaska, poor souls who try to exist without properly cooked burnt ends, ribs, or brisket. Oklahoma Joe's and Jack Stack are both good, but too "new" for serious BBQ-philes in town to take seriously yet... they need another fifty years of seasoning. Not that you need to leave the city limits to find great smoked meats (you'll literally trip over the BBQ joints here in the city), but 45 minutes east of where you'll be is Perry Foster's in Warrensburg, another killer spot. We take barbecue seriously here, so just ask around. You'll need to make some choices about the kind of flavor you prefer: sweet, smokey, spicy, vinegar-ish, molasses, etc.
As for bike spots, there are a couple of places to consider. In Overland Park, check out BikeAmerica - April might be when they are having their yearly swap meet, by the way - they are a normal LBS, but see if you can get them to let you check out the scads of old stuff stacked up in the warehouse. As already mentioned, Pace is a good stop. While you are there, check out Biscari Brothers/Peddler's in Independence. The 816 Bicycle Cooperative is open on Thursdays and Saturdays and RevolveKC seems to be open pretty much all the time. Rivermarket Cyclery may not have much in the way of vintage stuff, but they're good people. Also, if you're here on April 30, that is the date of our annual Velocipede and Tweed Indeed! tweed ride. There are a number of vintage enthusiasts in town, many of whom would be happy to flip a bike if you're carrying green paper! Have a great visit!

I really appreciate it.
When it gets closer I'll decide about bringing a bicycle.
Who knows, maybe I'll buy one and drag it home.
Wouldn't be the first time.

Sadly, Sarah closed up shop a couple years ago. A couple of guys who used to work with her are still around and running a tiny little shop down on 39th and State Line, and another down in the Crossroads Art District. I see Sarah at the swaps every now and again but she's left bikes pretty much behind otherwise. She was doing some stuff out of the basement of a friend's print shop but last time I was over there it looked like she'd even cleared out of there too. The world sort of sucks sometimes.

KC bbq would take several weeks to explore.
I also like Smokin Guns in NKC. River Market Cyclery is a good shop and has real mechanics. Mid-west Cyclery is also a good shop to visit as is Turners in Overland Park. Bring your bike(s). Lotta good rides every day of the week. Here is a link to the local ride calendar:https://www.brownbearsw.com/freecal/jcbcrides
