Attention: All Bianchi Lovers

You might want to check out this redone Nuovo Racing.....

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1980s-Bianch...item4ab3091ccf

An unusual mix of parts and it looks like the paint or clear coat got laid on kind of thick, but it does seem priced to sell.

That's not a rough clear coat - that's a cheap spraybomb job. Disgusting.

First realistic price I've seen for a Bianchi on eBay. Looks like one recently posted on this forum.

Were the Nuovo Racing frames really made with Tretubi tubes?

It took some doing but yes it is the same bike we recently drooled over.

https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...stored+Bianchi

I would have to check the catalog but I TreTubi may be correct.

I am curious about how it can be restored but in as new condition?

seller claims it is an '82, but quoates from the '83 catalog.

I am not sure any bike came with Superbe brakes but if one did I think it might be a bit higher in the pecking order.

the 27" wheels also have me wondering if about this frame. it is very pissible it is a lower end frame posing.

Haven't googled- Can people outside of Italy obtain Celeste paint? That obviates the need for getting a real one. I recently saw a Superleggera with chrome lugs, and will try and recover to forward pictures. The really nice ones are really pricey, and the nuovo racer ones share with Pinarellos a tendency to consist of whatever tubing the plant had handy at the time. Of course this is sort of charming like the big bird logo. I've also seen a team bike all Bianchi-graphicked out, because the guy liked his Colnago frame; oddly his pedaling style severed the head tube just about cross-section, the only time I've seen this.

Pardon- did I forget to mention really old Bianchis? They have this quaint innovation of integrating the headset into the frame.

It's true, the paint job is a bit of deal breaker. Why all the trouble if it ends up being a rattle-can special? Especially the seat tube...

The same paint is underneath, however; the painter did not allow proper drying time between coats. Too bad. And, to the wrinkles, the paint will have little or no durability. Home paint must be allowed to dry properly and thoroughly.

Wow thats amazing the pictures on the BF thread made me think that paint was perfect, but seeing those pictures on ebay made me think again. I rather us a rattle can i can get a nice sleek look from it just need enough coats. I wonder how high people will actually bid on this bike.

I thought so but would not say so without my catalogs.

what is your take on the 27" wheels? I would have thought they would be 700cs

here is another thing that makes you go HHmmmmmmm

the seller states it is a bit too big (55cm) and states he normally rides a 54cm. however the seller also states he is 5'11". so unless he is built like Bobby Hill or has a war injury like Cotton Hill I would think a 54 would be woefully small

""Q: Hi crazylegracing, I'm curious about how tall you are. Would you say that someone 5'11'' would most likely be too tall for this bike? Such a beautiful restoration. Thanks, Jim
A: Jim, I'm about 5'11" and normally look for bikes in the 54 range so no you would not be to tall. You can always adjust fit by swapping stems. Thanks, Ryan""

Have seen bad painting and that one. The bike was over sprayed with something, as everybody mentioned, that's from where the orange peel comes from. Bad bad painting.

I give sometihng to the guy, he picked the stuff right tho.

250 bucks tops.

Yes, I would have thought 700C too but my literature only states Mavic Module E2 with Clement Gentleman. IIRC, both came in 27" and 700C sizes. The clearances seem OK and it does have the steeper head tube, typical of the Bianchi of this level and era. I assume you're not home and don't have access to your literature but if you look at the 1983 catalog on the Bulgier site, the tires on the Nuovo Racing do look to have a higher profile, like a 27".

Bianchis don't do anything for me for some reason. I think it's because most people want one. I go against the grain and am attracted to the oddballs.

"Disgusting?" That's a bit strong. It's ugly, I suppose.

That is a very amateur paint application. Those photos could be used as textbook examples of dry spray, orange peel, fisheyes, texture and dirt.

Picky picky picky.........an hour with some 2000 grit wet and dry, rubbing compound and a polish would most likely take out 90% of the orange peel in the lacquer. At least the seller is honest enough to mention it......

A well spec'd bike IMHO.

. . . and more than likely sand and polish right through 10% of the top coat in the process . It's probably painfully thin in spots.

I said it before, much to the chagrin of another parttime member here, but I think the X-4s are over rated. the frames are SLX but geomentry is not any different than another highend Bianchi of the era. if you want a nice Bianchi to ride buy a '89 Giro Super Leggera or Mondiale. if you want something pretty to look at buy an X-4 with the fancy pantoed group.

Here is a Super Leggera w/ Chorus in Milwaukee https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/bik/2803801121.html

and a Giro w/ Athena in So Jersey https://southjersey.craigslist.org/bik/2800408397.html
