5 speed versus 6 speed freewheels?
I'm doing a Xtracycle conversion of my Sedona e-bike and I've run into a chainline problem trying to use my 7 speed freewheel. In 7th gear the chain rubs on the special nuts where the old dropouts lock into the new frame extension. It barely clears it in 6th. Will going to a 5 speed gain me more clearance? It apprears Falcon is what is available in a 14-28 set regardless of 5 or 6 speed. I'd like to have a 11 or 12 but there probably isn't room to go that small.

You gonna eat that?
This info may help.
I recently went from 6 to 7 speeds on one of my freewheel bikes. The 7 took up a wee bit more room than the 6. According to the link, though, it looks like you should gain a few millimeters (about 6) of clearance by going to a 5 speed. If you have indexed shifting and the indexing is off with the new freewheel, you may find you get acceptable shifting by just running in friction mode (I do).

Suggest you read at this link a bit more than 1/2 down the page.
There are 2 different width 6 speeds, so the answer is maybe!

Can you add a few MM of spacer to the axle on the problem side, remove a like amount on the oposite side and redish the wheel. (actually for a couple mm, you could let it slide.)

Does anyone currently make an untra-6 width freewheel (6 in the space of 5?)

IRD might. I'd give them a shout and ask.
Unless you're really set on ramped cogs, I have a Suntour New Winner Ultra-6 13-23 that you can try out, if you're interested.

I don't believe IRD makes an Ultra 6 spaced freehweel.
I don't recommend a Falcon freewheel (not HG cogs). Spend a few bucks more and buy a SunRace.

It's on an e-bike so I rarely go lower than 5th gear. The sedona has gripshift max so the index should me the modern spacing. I'll check out sunrace.

You wont fine a freewheel with an 11T cog just in case, 6speed cassette? maybe but i doubt it. Back in the day the smallest was like a 13T and people was more than happy with them.
Suntour had a freewheel that was 6 speed but was not wider than a 5 speed freewheel, really hard to find and expensive too. Probably u can put a 10 speed chain in those ones w/o any problem.
Good luck.

Since it is just the chain that rubs on the 7th smallest sprocket, set the RD limit to stop on the 6th cog. Now, I guess the challenge might be that the gearing is not high enough for your likes (what are the tooth counts on the 7th and 6th cogs?). One way to solve this would be to swap some cogs on your freewheel. What brand and model is it, and can you post a picture? This might be the cheapest way to get around this challenge.

Thanks, I have a couple old Suntour Ultra-6's. I am interested in a ramped freewheel with ultra spacing. Guess there is no such thing. Sorry for the thread derail.

Brilliant idea. If this works, then you could use a 7-spd freewheel with a 12-tooth small cog (SunTour and Sachs made lots of these), which would get you a 13-tooth next-to-smallest cog.

My LBS had a 6 speed Suntour. Works good. It's also a 13-23 so I won't lose top end. IRD looked really nice but $50.... Thanks guys!!!!
