reverse threading on a mid-eighties Schwinn bottom bracket?
I'm posting this here and in the mechanics forum. I hope no one minds the double post.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the fixed cup on an old mid-eighties Schwinn Traveler has reverse threading or not. I'm rebuilding one for my daughter, and I'm having trouble getting it to move. I didn't want to put too much muscle into it without knowing which direction it's supposed to go. I do have a good fixed cup remover, an old VAR that I bought from a bike shop going out of business three decades ago. Do I go left, or do I go right? :) Thanks, in advance, for your wisdom. |
Go right young man. Reversed threads on the fixed cup side.

I got it off, Thanks! Tomorrow I wash the frame, get rid of the rust, touch up the paint and make it look good.

Your very welcome. Congratulations on retirement and +1 on the Glenn's Bicycle Repair manual. My all-time favorite.

Glad to hear you were sucessful. That VAR is a great fixed cup tool. IMO, it's even better than Campagnolo's.
