My Peugeot PY10 has arrived!!
So after a while of waiting my Peugeot PY10 finally arrived.
I'm very happy with it but need to find some parts to finish it properly. Some of the parts had been replaced over the years. It has the gold Simplex LJ Super front and rear derailleurs and gold Mafac brakes. I have managed to find the gold levers on Ebay and so those parts are complete. It has the Philippe Atax professional handle bars but not the original stem. The wheels aren't original and neither are the seat post or saddle. At the moment it has an aero seatpost and i have a choice of saddles to put on there. I think i'm going to go with a brown Cinelli unicator because it's a nice saddle and looks similar to the ideale 2000 models. As for the wheels i might keep the more modern ones on there or a pair of Nomandy luxe competition with clincher rims or Campagnolo and tubulars , or i might have some normandy and tubular wheels somewhere. The crank set is a more modern Stronglight escape and i have a Stronglight 49D that could go on there even though that is the wrong version for the bike! But to be honest i quite like the Escape! What do you guys think about trying to keep everything original as opposed to mostly original. Cheers |

First off, congratulations! If I had a PY10, and I wish I did, I would strive to put "as original" or at least period correct components. Eventually. But first, I would outfit it with the best I had available, take pictures, post them here, and enjoy the bike thoroughly! Only after that I would shop with an obsession until I had all the right parts - and then (and only then) retrograde the PY10 to its original glory. And take more pictures and post them here.
But that's just me - Jim |
Welcome to the club of PY10 fanatics, Daveyates. What year and color is yours?
-Kurt |
Thanks guys,
Mine is a silver one with the chrome front lugs . Judging by the headbadge i think it is around 1975. |
I dying to see it - Jim
|
Jim i'll try and post some photos a bit later this evening.

PM sent about the stem

Thanks and Pm sent.

Can't wait to see it.

Well here is the bike.
I did have it stripped down for cleaning and servicing but since you guys wanted to see it i quickly assembled it roughly. Overall condition is pretty good but the top tube has some paint missing in places nearer the front lug. The size is 57cm x 57cm and i have quickly added a Campagnolo tubular wheelset for the photo. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7175/6...83c60812_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7166/6...688c99ef_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7148/6...bf7ce171_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7163/6...2b5cd24b_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7018/6...f0d72839_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7144/6...576f251b_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7034/6...2db866d1_b.jpg |
The frame needs a good clean and polish as when i received it there was a lot of handlebar foam grip stuck on various parts of the frame.
I've got most of it off now but there is still sticky residue in places. |
I am thinking a 75 PY would have Maillard 700 rather than Normandy Luxe Competition. What say ye, Kurt?
|
That's a nice one with cool head lugs too! It should clean up really nice from what we can see.
Also nice to see a C&V Peugeot that does not say "Super Competition" on the TT for a change. Looks like you're halfway towards a golden themed bike. Just get those missing golden items and that bike will look more even more awesome. Angled "531" on the Reynolds sticker also means full butted 531 frame and fork right? Chombi |
I think the paint imperfections add character. Lovely! Let us know how it rides.

Cheers I think I would try to get as close as I could to the original parts (just as much as your funds and parts availability will allow). These parts are after all, what the "prestige" is about. Either way you'll have a wonderful ride, and I know you'll fall in love with it. |

It's a nice Peugeot, but what makes it a PY10 (as opposed to a PX10LE)? I thought PY10's had 531 "light" tubes, usually with red 531numbers. This one has a green 531 sticker. The 531 DT (as opposed to ST) sticker pegs it as a post-'75 P10 series, such as an LE.

You can see many tour de france photos where the PY10s had red or green stickers. Also on my bike they choose the chromed lugs which was another option. Check this one from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Top-Peugeo...1/120838923312 |
