Information on this Dutchie?
2 Attachment(s)
I am doing some research on this particular bicycle. It's an (I would say) probably around 80's built bike, equipped with shimano 600 among others. The brand is unknown to me, dutch brand 'Versluis'. No decals except for the badge on the front. Anyone has any information on this brand or bike?
Thanks :) http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=235222http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=235223 |
Quick search on google.nl shows up a bikeshop. Probably their housebrand. Nice bike by the way!

Looks to be in great shape, nice find!
|
Thanks! That's what I found :) Can't seem to find any other ones. Apparently the brothers Versluis were professional cyclists in the Netherlands back in the days. They opened up a bike shop later, selling mostly dutch brand bikes. However, there is little to be found about their house brand. I will try to get in touch with the bike shop on monday :)
|
I have never heard of Versluis, but there have been so many small brands here and there in the Netherlands. It is also not really near me.
Keep us posted - please |
Bike is now in my possession. It's gorgeous. However, Doesn't come with any stickers, and havent been able to find a possible serial number. How can I identify this frame/fork? What should I look for?
I will post more pictures soon, once I've given it a good clean :) |
It's either a homebrew example or build by a big contractor, like Bilatto, Jonckheere, Kessels, BMZ... Even Colnago was known to do contract work for bike shops. There are some ways of telling the different contractors apart, but that's not my field of expertise. Have you tried calling the shop yet?
|
Haven't called the shop yet. Was waiting for the bike to get here, and look for possible serial numbers and such. I will give them a call!
For now, Pictures! I am looking for clues to help identify the age of this bike :) http://www.renoud.nl/versluis/versluis_web-1.jpg http://www.renoud.nl/versluis/versluis_web-2.jpg http://www.renoud.nl/versluis/versluis_web-3.jpg http://www.renoud.nl/versluis/versluis_web-4.jpg http://www.renoud.nl/versluis/versluis_web-5.jpg http://www.renoud.nl/versluis/versluis_web-6.jpg http://www.renoud.nl/versluis/versluis_web-7.jpg http://www.renoud.nl/versluis/versluis_web-8.jpg http://www.renoud.nl/versluis/versluis_web-10.jpg |
Looking good! Too bad road bikes are out of the question now with all that snow...
|
Indeed. This snow is delaying my test drive ;)
Called the shop, bike still remains a mystery. Any ways of telling the type of frame? :) |
The usual clues, like tubing stickers, pantographings and serial numbers are absent, so if the shop doesn't know what it is it will probably remain a mystery for ever. Maybe somebody recognizes the lug cutouts though. Anyway, it's a beauty!
|
Assuming the components are original, 600 Arabesque, early 80's most likely. Things like the brake bridge and BB shell might give a clue. The head lugs look like some of the Bilato stuff...
What size seat post does it take? |
