my FREE DeRosa Professional...
...well technically i paid for it, but in the end with all the swapping around and selling of components and whatnot, i've got exactly $0 invested in this beauty.
back story: i first spotted the bike on my local CL, emailed the seller within 30 minutes of it being posted and was quickly informed that it had sold. mind you, the price wasn't exactly a steal, but it sold very quickly.
after being informed that i was beat to the punch, i checked ebay... there it was, not 2 hours after the original CL listing, it was listed on ebay for $500 over the CL price. i should mention, nothing had been done to the bike whatsoever, in terms of cleaning it up or overhauling anything.
i messaged the ebay seller and set up a time to look at the bike the next day. after closely inspecting it, he agreed to sell it to me for the original CL asking price. the flipper made a quick $500 off of me, but i was happy as can be and felt that i had paid fair market value for the bike.
it came with a nearly full C-Record group, less brake levers (Super Record, calipers were Cobaltos), pedals (MKS track), freewheel (DuraAce 7spd). the paint and decals were (and are) in nearly immaculate condition. the components were also in beautiful condition.
ebay seller's pic
i quickly picked up a set of Chorus levers from a local (and BF member), installed some Chorus pedals, a Concor saddle, black Fizik bar tape, the only gumwall tires i had on hand (i know, they're not worthy of being on the DeRosa), and overhauled all the bearings and installed new cables and housings.
i wasn't particularly happy with the black on red theme so i switched things out for white bits. i finally scored a white perforated Concor in nice condition, some Cobalto specific brake levers, NOS C-Record cable housing, white Fizik bar tape, and a pair of super nice Vittoria Open Corsa EVO SC gumwall tires (very worthy of being on the DeRosa).
as time went on i grew tired of the beautiful C-Record group i so desperately wanted for a long time. in my opinion, the shifting is equal to Super Record and the group overall has to weigh more than SR. also, i actually prefer the way SR looks over C-Record.
since i already had a near mint SR group laying around i finally decided to make the swap. the C-Record bits were sold, ultimately selling for quite a bit more than i paid for the complete bike. enough to cover the cost of the tires, tubes, housing, cables, saddle, both sets of bar tape and all the other loose odds and ends. the SR group was pieced together over time from various purchases, trades and part outs.
hence, my FREE DeRosa Professional...

edit: just realized i need to install cable ends and maybe trim the cable housing down a bit (pics of housing are deceiving, they both rise the same distance over the handle bars. the perspective makes the drive side cable look much higher/longer)

I like the aero levers and post better, but your bike looks beautiful in all it's configurations. I just installed a ti black rolls on my De Rosa this weekend. My wife talked me out of the white!

very beautiful, but I would have kept the Cobaltos.

Truly awesome road bike! Your photography really brings out the details (tripod?). I too gravitated toward the aero levers and Cobaltos edition, but there's no combination you've assembled that isn't just strikingly beautiful.
Can you give any impression of how it rides? Or what does it weigh?

Well done. I am in the process of switching from C Record to Super Record on a bike as well. I will have to try one of these De Rosa's one day.

I think a good switch. Corsa Record has styling going for it, I have over time collected most of a group, at "user" prices, I am happy to had fit but it IS heavier. Shifts no better than the Super Record, although the retroflection levers are nice. I have the high flange hubs which are a styling gem, the cranks from a racer's perspective are bad news, I have seen a number of guys over shift and the next step was to stop and reload the chain, no step at the crank center to catch the mechanic's error.

Excellent. I came in expecting to be terribly jealous. But I left impressed and wishing I had a red De rosa. Lovely bike.

I love it - in all its guises! But I prefer the finished product (big surprise, huh?), not being a C-Record guy in the main.
Enjoyed the back-story, too; so, how long did it take to get from the initial purchase to the Super Record-equipped jewel we see above?
Someday I'll own a DeRosa...heck, I'll probably be coming back from MN with one if Grady has his way

Excellent job, she's beautiful. And a nice history of how it came to be. $0.00 is good!
