Sturmey-Archer S5 five speed left side cable/shifter?
 

I've built a wheel using a Sturmey-Archer S5 hub for use on a men's frame Raleigh Superbe. I plan to use a friction shifter for the left and an ordinary SA trigger on the right. Any thoughts on cable type/routing and where to place a friction shifter? Did Raleigh use a second cable pulley or run cable housing to the chain or seat stay on Sprites or other 5 speeds? Have not found a clear left side photo of a bike with an S5 hub.

there was a roller at the top of the seat tube, on my old 3 speed ,
[ just 'advisers' in Viet Nam then, JFK not yet Shot]
the clip /housing stop on the front of the TT,
bare wire all the way to the hub from there.

My T3 Brompton, now changing hands , has housing all the way to a redirect roller .
So a braze on is on the 'rear extremity', a seat stay like location above the hub..
one on each side for the 5 speed version

I refitted the JC Higgins /Puch as a 3 by 3 by 3 speed ,
a triple cog cluster on the hub, and cottered triple crank.
with 3 Huret Friction levers on the downtube ..

I have only seen down tube and stem shifters that look like derailer shifters, but they're indexed for SA. I use a trigger shifter on the right and a friction Suntour thumb shifter on the left with my S5-2. I have the original stem shifters, but I don't like them. I routed my cables like they're derailer cables, with a double stop, bare cables and a double cable guide at the BB. I think it's a cleaner look than full length housings. Pulleys are required only for a more traditional look.

There is no shifter in the link above that will work with a dual cable S5.

My Sprite uses TT shifters and the LH is a full cable to the shifter and a stop on the seat stay.
