bent Univega mixte fork: fix or replace?
 

I just bought I vintage 80's Univega mixte to rebuild. It looks like the previous owner crashed it at some point - it has one big dent, the rear derailleur was really bent, and now we've just discovered that the front fork is slightly bent as well, so the wheel is crooked when it sits all the way in. Is this something that I or the folks at the bike shop can repair? Is it still safe to ride? If not, any ideas on where I can find a vintage replacement?

hey there, welcome to BF. i wouldn't bother fixing the fork (unless it's made out of something nice/oddly colored), and instead would just go and get a replacement fork with a similar rake. you should also check the frame itself for alignment issues - if the front is crashed, there might be damage elsewhere which would render the bicycle unusable. maybe you could post some pictures?

Well, its not bent much at all. You can't see it unless the wheel is in. If I set the wheel all the way into the dropouts, it is uneven. But if I adjust the placement a bit I can make is straight. I'm considering using a little J-B weld in the dropout so the wheel can sit where it wants to. The rest of the frame looks good, and I don't plan on painting it (so, I'd rather not get a new/different fork)
