Campagnolo headset on a vintage Raleigh Sports...

It seems like I read somewhere that a Campagnolo headset can be installed onto a 3 speed Raleigh Sports. If that true, how do I go about determining which headset will fit? Is it just a matter of measuring the I.D. of the head-tube?

I received my Raleigh Sports today and am looking forward to getting it re-finished. I've already made arrangements for a complete decal set and re-finishing. I just have to decide which color to go with. I also need to have a set of wheels built.

I don't see how that's possible. Raleigh forks are threaded 26 tpi (right, guys?), and I don't think Campy ever made headsets with that threading.

I think Tom is correct...I have never seen a Campy headset on a Raleigh Sports...I do have a 70's Motobecane with Campy BB cups in Swiss threading

Could it have been a Campy BB on a Raleigh Sports?

I suppose you could install everything except the Campy threaded race and locknut, or use a replacement fork with standard threading.

Other than stock, are there any more decorative headsets that will fit a 3 speed Raleigh Sports?

Why do you want to dress up a Sports? The fact that it is a mass produced, utilitarian work horse that survived for decades is its charm to me.

The original headset is badly pitted and missing some bearings. Since I was needing a headset I thought I would look for what ever is available.

You need to find a new 26 tpi headset or just the cups or race that needs replacing. Post something in the ISO/For Trade thread. There are plenty of Raleigh nuts around here. You'll find what you need.

if you can't find one for a reasonable price, buy a grand prix or other lowly model and take it off of that and flip the rest.

Nope, no Greece going on this English bike. $40 is what I paid.
