Fun. I only wish I knew what they were saying, although it's a credit to the commercials that even with just the visual, the message comes through.

I guess I've been pronouncing Panasonic wrong all these years.

"Pah-NAH-sohn-eek " :p

For a second there I thought I was on the 'show us your gravel grinders' thread.

I love how in the old ads, they seem to feature the parts that are computerized & machine-made, but in the newer material, they emphasize the stuff that's done by hand. :)

Yes, that was also my thought. Interesting.

I am lucky enough to have one of the order system Panasonics. It's a 1989 Bright red, Tange 2, and 59cm. It's
quite a bike. The build quality is excellent. Oh, and by the way, how ironic that in the first video, the group
rides in the shadow of Mt Fuji ?

The red bike featured appears to be the same color as my bike - Sonic red.

What makes that ironic?

ROUGH PARTIAL TRANSLATION:

NARR: Downhill "Yama-chan" (sorta like the Downhill Boys). Average age 72.
"Can't let the young guys lick us..."
"Well, we're not like them, our bodies are different now..."
"Who cares, as long as we're riding..."
NARR: With Panasonic's order system, your bike will have the perfect fit.
They stare at a hill ahead.
"Let's do it"
But then they detour off into some meadow.
NARR: But you don't have to sweat it. Happiness is the perfect bicycle made for you.
"We'll be doing this for another 30 years!"

Won't bother translating these but they're basically, "visited our hometown with the old man on our bikes". He's legs are shorter, he's shorter, blah blah.

Says that the bikes only take 2 weeks from order to delivery! Wonder if they really came in a wooden crate. Folks should know that outside the Kanto plains (Tokyo area), Japan is mostly mountainous.

Kanegon 02-10-12 10:49 AM

Just visited the Panasonic cycle webpage. They need to be more careful with English acronyms.

I make the better part of my living shooting commercials--am in LA to so so right now--so am a little jaded on the form. But I love these. Bet they won awards at the time.
