Mid 90's Gary Fisher Wahoo

Hi - I am restoring a 90's Wahoo just to make into a fat-tired city commuter. It's going pretty well, I just need to replace the cantilevers with CR720s and one other thing:

The rear brake cable routes in a little brazed-on "tunnel" around the seat tube and I can feel some pretty decent friction when squeezing the brake -- even with new cables and housing. Is there an elegant solution to this? I have the surly rear brake stop but didn't know if there's a better solution than just running full housing all the way back to the surly housing stop piece.

Thanks,

Will a bit of plastic housing liner fit through the tubing?

Yeah, on the 2nd picture you can kind of see the little black plastic tube that runs through there....maybe that old stuff is causing the friction? Where do I get more of that thin tubing?

I've seen that before, once I was able to fit a short length of 4mm cable housing through and clip it off short at each end. My friend said it helped a lot. Remember, though, that most of your braking effectiveness comes from the front.

If you don't mind having 30 meters on hand, AE Bike sells rolls of Jagwire liner for $7.99.

Have you tried dripping some cable lube in there to free it up?

Okay, so there's room for a housing liner. Pull out the old one, then just take a scrap of brake housing, grab the liner with a needlenose and pull it out of the housing. Trim for length and slide it in.
