miamijim's Masi Gran Criterium brought back from the dead (pic heavy) Final Thread.
'84 Masi Gran Criterium with a few additions.
Top tube cable guided repaired. Pump peg, chain hanger and seat tube bottle bosses added. Rear spacing set to 131.
Striped, painted (Du Pont Imron Viper Red), decal's and 5 coats of clear.
I need to thank Chris Kvale for the awesome job on restoration, paint and decals.
miamijim for the deal on the frame, elguicho for a lot of the Campy components/wheels and Force for the Modolo Professional bars and stem. Did I miss anybody? If so Thank you also.
And... If you have never seen one, yes that is a Selle San Marco Rolls saddle Lobster Edition.
Also a shout out for Anybody's Bike Shop in Eau Claire, WI a great LBS who made the Campy shift like it should.

+1 Great job and a fine specimen.
I think when you wear out that tape you should consider black, and silver cages - put the focus on the frame. But whatever, it looks great and I bet it rides pretty nice too.

beautiful, gran crit is on my want list.. I have a fork but no frame... ha

The bare frame looks much like mine! Well, almost, there a bit more orange in it. The assembled bike looks quite different! And that's a crazy saddle.

I'm one of the few people I know (OK the only person) with a permanent bike photo spot on the side of their house.
Jim claimed it was a 1984 when he sold it to me.

I like the results very much.
Of note, the down tube transfer is of the earlier style with the alternating fill color for the typography.
I like this much better than the all yellow Masi USA used in the middle 80's.
A good aesthetic choice.
Chris also placed the seat bands well which while a small detail can if off make a bike goofy looking.
I have a later 80's Gran Criterium, a fun bike, with a bit of a different feel from the Italian and Carlsbad period bikes.

Those modolos are prone to cracking. The design is flawed as there is minimal material between the head and the neck because the bolt pierces it. Check around the bolt access hole on the bottom and watch for cracking. I have one, rode it for a little while and then was advised as I am advising you now to check it. I took one look, saw the cracks and removed it from service. Not worth the risk.

Nice save of a nice frame, and a nice build. Very similar to my '86, which was also resurrected from a frame and fork (though paint/decals are original). So how does yours ride?
