Winter project complete. 83 Nishiki.
Last fall, someone in the neighborhood put this Nishiki Rally out to the curb for collection, so I collected it.
http://i41.tinypic.com/14nxjt.png Any time a bike like that fall into my hands, you can safely bet the farm that it will get a gearhub conversion faster than you can say, Sturmey Archer, so this one got an SRF3 hub, bull horn handlebar, well, I trimmed them back a bit so I guess we can call them cow horns. On second thought, I suppose it should be steer horn. Well, whatever you call it, I fitted a bar end shifter and interrupter style levers. The rims are 27" CR18, shod with Scwalbe Marathon 27 x 1 1/4 tires. Original parts used were, frame, fork, headset, Dia Compe brake calipers and the stem. And the finished product. http://i44.tinypic.com/29f6vqv.jpg |
If you're really bored and have nothing better to do, I made a video series of the transformation.
Video 1 The before shot 2-Disassembly 3-Riv Nut installation for bottle cage 4-Deciphering date codes 5-Frame spacing and alignment 6-Checking chain line 7-Got the parts 8-Bullhorn bar and levers 9- All finished |
Nice job, and kinda cool to see someone else's methods working on a bike.
What was the tool in the disassembly video that you used to remove the fixed cup? |
