schwinn voyageur II what year is it, what parts belong on it...?
 

I'm looking at buying a schwinn voyageur II. I've always wanted a schwinn with chrome lugs since I first saw one and this one may be for sale if I make the right offer to the original owner. Anyway trying to figure out what year it is and what parts actually belong on the bike from the factory. Lastly wondering (once I know the year) was this bike close to being a paramount or closer to a varsity? Thanks in advance for all the help. Serial number is .... G426207

Nice bike , has been upgraded with Shimano Dura Ace. What are they asking for it, and will it be sold ready to ride?

The decals look mid-70's, here's a link to the '75 catalog.....silver was one of the colors offered that year.

There is no asking price, it's my bosses bike from years back before he bought the bike shop he worked at. It's one of many bikes he has hanging in a back room just waiting to see the light of day again. I asked about this one and he said if I was interested to make a fair offer.

I'm not to worried about buying it or not buying it, really just more curious as to what year it is and if he put all the DA/HI-E on himself since he can't remember which bikes he kept stock and which ones he changed parts on to make better "riders"

The '74-'76 Voyageur II was basically a continuation of the '73 World Voyageur, with the only differences being price, colors, and the addition of a 25" size.

The bike in question here looks to have an original frame/fork, headset, stem and handlebars, but literally everything else looks to have been changed. The serial number starts with G4, which I believe indicates July '74 frame production.

The World Voyageur/Voyageur II was a very high-end bike in the Schwinn lineup, 2nd only to the Paramount from '73 through '76. It was finally replaced in '77 by the Volare.

The World Voyageur was similar, but was marketed under the "World" brand instead of being sold as a Schwinn since the company (Schwinn) didn't know how a Japanese made bike branded as a Schwinn would be received by the American market. The World Voyageur was very well received, so the next year it became a Schwinn model, the Voyageur II.

Thanks for all the info on the bike and the link to the original one on e-bay. Now idk if I should ask here or start a new thread in the whats it worth forum but..

Do the upgraded wheels and dura-ace components hurt the value since it's no longer a true original collector bike, help the value since it is almost full DA w/ a high end wheelset or is most of the value in the frameset so component selection doesn't affect the price much at all?

If you are planning on riding it the up grades are to your benefit. If you planning to restore it then no. Roger
