Rear Derailleur Hangers

Hi guys,
I have a bunch of rear derailleurs that afix on newer type frames. But I have a Mercier with a Simplex rear derailleur that's giving me a hard time. Would anyone know if this adapter will work with the size/threading of a rear derailleur? Cause the ones I look at with a built in hanger looks much smaller

What you've posted is a "Shimano compatible" hanger. I may have a Simplex claw. I'll look tonight.

Once again, BF member Stronglight's Flickr stream to the rescue.

I just noticed that the Simplex that's on it, isn't sort of more vertical to the ground but a little more horizontal. Should it be at a steeper angle? There are not "stops" in the hanger to keep it in place. I'm thinking of just it needs to be loosened up, and then repositioned, and then tightened up. Is there a proper angle to these Simplex'es?

I have a bunch of older Shimano rear derailleurs. Ugh, Flicker is blocked at work.

Try to approximate the angle of the RD in the above photo link.

What is it that you want to accomplish here? Your OP is unclear. Do you want to use the Simplex RD that you have, but you need a Simplex claw?

My rear is the same type but its more parrallel to the chain stay. So maybe I just need to straighten it out?

This one is NOT on a hanger but should it look like this if it was??

Yes. It's more akin to a Nuovo Record RD than a Suntour or Shimano. It should be closer to perpendicular with the chainstay than parallel.

Yah, I think this is probably the wrong angle. Should there be a stopper in the back of that hanger?

I have to use 2 hands to shift!!! Something is weird with that thing. I wanna replace it with a Shimano cause I have a bunch of rear Shimanos. But they don't have hangers.
But if I can try fiddling around with this, maybe something wrong with the spring, maybe the angle...not really sure yet now. But I will try the angle first.

The metal hanger doesn't have a stopper so I think it'll eventually move back into that same position after a while.

If you want to use a Shimano RD you need only buy the hanger you linked in your original post. I just bought one and it works as advertised.

That's perfect! Maybe I should go with those. Cheap. But dang, shipping from Niagara cycles is 10 bucks. I only need a few little things.

If they're not labelled as such, is there a way to tell whether they're shimano compatible or not?

I went to the lbs a week ago asking for 2 of those and after digging around in a drawer for a while they handed me 2 (but without the bolt and backing plate) that are just stamped Heuret. I wonder if they'll work with my shimano RD's, though it probably doesn't matter as I'll need to get the bolt/backing plates somewhere and will probably just go somewhere to get new claws too unless the backing plate is sold separately.

I'd suggest trying your lbs. They might have some (or just look at you funny like mine did at first).

I bought mine on eBay for $4 shipped. I tried my LBS first, but he didn't have one.
