Whoo! Unexpected win on ebay.

So I had sworn off buying anymore bikes for myself, but I just couldn't pass this one up. I'm amazed I won the auction, I thought it was going to go a lot higher. Manual snipe in the last 3 seconds with all my kids watching including my one year old. Who can guess what it is?

Clues:

1. Not my general era (80's, not 60's)
2. Not my general country - America! Small but influential American builder.
3. It IS my all-time favourite colour for a bike, but until now I've never really owned one in this colour.

Who can guess what it is? ;)

Albert Eisentraut?

devinfan 02-21-12 06:58 PM

Great guess but no.

squirtdad 02-21-12 06:59 PM

sachs

devinfan 02-21-12 07:01 PM

Another good guess, I'd love a Richard Sachs! This guy made less bikes that either of those two.

I'll throw out another clue - he was very much associated with special brazing and soldering methods.

Mike Melton?

A Rex, by Steve Rex in Sacramento?

rootboy 02-21-12 07:09 PM

Bolt Upreit ?

devinfan 02-21-12 07:10 PM

Nope. Another clue, he was a 6 day racer...

rootboy 02-21-12 07:11 PM

Oh oh! Rance Hamstrung ?

devinfan 02-21-12 07:13 PM

He held a patent for silver butter...

Oh, a John `Pop` Brennan?

jr59 02-21-12 07:15 PM

Just tell us already!

And post pics!

devinfan 02-21-12 07:16 PM

Good guess! But alas, no.

Bigger and better clue: He was the only person (as far as I know) to silver-braze titanium...

Cecil Behringer, I cheated

You can't cheat, I never set any rules! Anyway you got it. Here's a teaser pic:

Orange! Cool looking fork.

kiwigem 02-21-12 07:23 PM

Now your signature is true!
Orange is the new red, BTW.

A Behringer Nitrided Titanium?

devinfan 02-21-12 07:25 PM

Thanks all, it's not titanium, it's 531, but that suits me fine. Here's another of the somewhat blurry ebay pics:

Bummer on the dent:(

devinfan 02-21-12 07:30 PM

I don't sweat little dings and dents too much. Plus I suspect that's what kept a lot of buyers away from this one, making it workable for me.

I would not have worried about that either, especially considering how much I love Orange bikes!!

Cool, what are the build plans?
