Stainless steel is softer, and more easily deformed than high quality high carbon steel. A good quality steel made spoke with galvanizing could conceivably be stronger, and last a LOT longer than SS. Depends on the brand, and how well the wheel was built of course.

Oh, and you really need to store your bicycles indoors. Good care makes all the difference.
