BSA Streamlight. Help needed...
Hi
I have found a BSA Streamlight in my grandads shed. Does anyone have any info on this bike? Eg year made, rarity etc... Also I would be grateful if you could let me know best websites for parts & spares. Thanks N |
hello cound we see some pic's and welcome to the forum :-)
|
Thanks :-)
I've posted some pics on http://nickymcinally.tumblr.com/ Any info at all would be appreciated. |
Sturmey Archer HF-62 headlamp puts it sometime in the 1940s. Can you please check the rear hub for a date stamp?
http://oldbiketrader.co.uk/ has many spare parts, as will Ebay. BSA didn't use Raleigh's 26TPI threading, so more off the shelf parts even from today will work fine. KoolStop produces good quality salmon colored brake pads for the rod brakes, which are a massive improvement over the originals. Tires are still made with Schwalbe delta cruisers being a common replacement. http://bikesmithdesign.com/ Has cotter presses, pins, & bottom bracket tools of the best quality for you. http://www.home.earthlink.net/~stein...erchandise.htm For LED light head lamp bulbs, and other fittings of very high quality. http://www.compasscycle.com/Lighting.html For a LED standlight bulb for the tail light. yellowjersey.org Has some roadster spares of varying quality on Ebay "gerdvintage" sells replacement rubber reflectors in black and white. Brooks saddles are still made. Phil Wood tenacious oil for your hub & ports is highly recommended as is re-greasing your headset bearings. See this thread: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...glish-3-speeds... |
Thanks for all the info Fenway! I will check rear hub and let you know.
I was thinking it was around 1950's but I'm no bike expert. I plan on doing a restoration (however learning as I go along). |
This website is worth a good long read, too;

This is neat, I can't believe there wasn't more of a response

Neat bike!
What size are the wheels? They look 26 x 1-3/8" What does is say on the side of the tires? |
Great bike! I agree that they look like 26 X 1 3/8 wheels. Perhaps the BSA competitor to the Dawn Tourist? There are some BSA catalogues posted on this site that may be helpful in determining the year: http://oldbike.wordpress.com/

Thanks for the info guys, you're right about the wheels. I will pop out to my grandad's when I get a chance and get more details/info. I couldn't find much on the Internet about the bike so I'm very grateful for the response on here :-)

Have you had any luck with your resto? I came across a Steamlight at a thrift store. I've been looking for replacement decals but have had no luck, and I was wondering if maybe you might have some information?
