Marinoni help please
Picked this one up yesterday morning
I`m 90% sure it might be an original Marinoni but not 100% sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated The Campy nuovo derailleur is patent 77 Serial is G followed by 4 numbers Anyone know the year? Or what brand the cranks might be no stampings anywhere on them. Campy dropouts. And 1 last question tubing material ?? possible columbus? If the pics don`t work, sorry http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...7/IMG_1910.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...7/IMG_1913.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...7/IMG_1911.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...7/IMG_1912.jpg |
okay I got the pics to work, finally
|
It looks like the real deal to me but I would contact Marinoni directly. When I contacted them with a serial number, they were able to give me lots of information, including tubing type and build date.
I have never seen a Marinoni with Nervex lugs, that bike will really be a beauty with some elbow grease, nice score! |
Thanks JS , I`m just itching to start on it but she has to wait in line for my weight weenie to get finished.
|
That's most likely an Ofmega crank you've got there. As to the frame, I personally have never seen a Nervex-lugged Marinoni, but there's always a first time for everything :)
A few more detail shots of the BB shell, seat cluster and brake bridge might also help for ID purposes. DD |
I don't think that is a Marinoni. That bike is built for 27 " wheels, I think it is British, Marinoni frequently added his decals when re-painting bikes.
|
That is not a Marinoni, at least it is unlike any Marinoni I have ever run across and I have run across lots.
|
|
Is the separation between the DT and the lug point of any concern?

I was looking at the 2nd pic where it meets the head tube.
|
Never seen one with nervex lugs or centerpull brakes just saying. What does the headtube decal say and those forks look nothing like marinoni would put on a bike.
|
I know very little about Maccaronis but I agree I suspect this isn't one. I see lots of things about the condition of the bike that make me go :twitchy: or  but I kind want to get my hands on it and bring the old gal back to life. Don't you?
|
probs not a MARINONI.
sweet bike, tho. i have seen at least 2 fake marinoni's, lol, including ones with high end tubing ! |
I've also ever seen a Marinoni with an alpha character in the serial number or wrapover stays.
|
regardless off what it is it`s a great frame and light too seems well made .
It will eventually be brought back to her glory if I ever find out what it is Or I can have ir restored the easy way. LOL I did see a Marinonni ON Velospace with the wrap over stays http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...aaahealing.jpg |
OP is right - it does look to be fairly well-built. In fact, the semi-wrap-around seatstay caps look almost like my Mondia's. What's the threading on the BB?
I agree with Bianchigirll: looks good and deserves to be brought back to life. Oh, and it might just be the way the photo was taken as regards the possible separation at the down tube head lug; no apparent damage to the tube itself, although if it really is there it's just missing a bit of brazing brass. Many of us here - admit it - have seen much worse :) DD |
Oh I`ve restored bmx and cruiser bikes in worst conditions.
DD I think that what you are referring to is a paint chip sticking up. As for the BB I don`t have a clue what threading it has , I`m still learning about road bikes :) Thanks |

Thanks DD |
I believe you have a repainted Carlton or Carlton built Raleigh International. The elegant semi-circular cable stop is a clear distinguishing feature not found on any other bike of that period.
|
Thanks DD I will check the the BB tomorrow hopefully.
bertinjim I think you hit it right on the nail, I had a brown one once and gave it away Thanks Bianchigirl every see any of these. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...7/IMG_1937.jpg Bianchi`s attempt at BMX in the early 80`s. my spring projects for my 2 boys |
