I miss Rhode Gear. They had so many neat, useful, well-designed cycling accessories.

Post your favorite Rhode Gear bike stuff.

I'll start with something Bianchigirll very kindly helped me with. A badly organized craigslist ad :rolleyes: in her area for a bike rack. I recognized it as a Rhode Gear Euro Shuttle, which I've been wanting for a long time. It gives you 2 fork mounts and 2 wheel carriers on your trunk.

I also have one of the ubiquitous kid seats which came with a tank-like Blackburn rack; and I have a Tool Pod which has been one of my favorite bike multi-tools. I'll have to post a photo of that later.

i have a rhode gear cycling cap... i don't have a photo of it, but it's yellow and black.

They had some of the most comfy gloves.

8/9/10mm sockets; 90* magnetic bit holder and 3/4/5/6mm hex bits; phillips & slotted; so-so tire lever & 2 spoke wrenches.

There is a Rhode Gear Spare Tire Shuttle rack on the back of my Tracker. Alas, it's reaching the end of it's service life.

if i can find it, it's yours. i never wear it so it might as well be with someone who truly loves it.

Rhode Gear Limo child seat. Fits on a Blackburn EX rack so you can just put your kid seat on when you need it and have a real rack for the other times!

Flickstands rock! I just put one my fixed gear.

Still have a Rhode Gear seat bag and rack top bag. The rack top went with me to France on a ride from Paris to the Med in 1985.

they still produce bike racks but the company is now own by yakima

My Rhode Gear spoke wrench is still the primary one that I use.

I had this on my bike and replaced it years ago for cork tape with more cushion. I was stupid enough to toss it back then and sure wish I had it back now.

I also have and use some flickstands, a water bottle, and a frame fit pump. The bottle has a plastic clamp that goes around the tube and a tapered slot to slide their bottle that has the inverse tapered piece. Nice non-marring set up for bottle boss deprived vintage frames.

What ever happened to Rhode Gear - anyone know the story?

I have one of those and even used it on a miata once. I hate it, but that's probably magnified by my hate for most trunk racks. I like the concept of it and it might have just been that mine is/was past its prime, but I had a bike almost fall off because the fork mount wouldn't get tight enough. I've moved on to a Yakima roof rack.

Blasphemy! Yakima in a rhode gear thread, yeah, i went there.

on my old 68 Saab 96 . the front [yakima] load bar was over the back window,
the rear one clipped to the edge Of the hatchback.

I miss cars with proper Rain Gutters, to clip onto.

I picked up a Rhode Gear trunk rack at Goodwill for $3. I think it's well made....but looks like I'm missing the top tube attachments. I guess I'll create something appropriate.
Had their helmet, flickstand...they were a good company back then.

RHODE GEAR was made in RHODE ISLAND back in the 80's or90's then bell sports bought the company and now sold it to yakima.
there only makking the bike rack now. i got a 2- bike last yr. and it's basiclly the same rack i used in the 80's.

I have two Rhode Gear bottle cages on my 2011 Rivendell Bombadil. Took them off of my '85 Ritchey Ascent. They have a nice aged look... :)

As a side note: the Bombadil is described as an '80s mountain bike built to modern standards. The Ascent and I have been together for thousands of miiles, and it was my favorite bike of all time... until the Bombadil showed up.

I had a summer job in a dumpy little jewelry factory in an old industrial building right next to Rhode Gear's space back in 1981. I was in art school at the time and the Rhode Gear folks had gone to RISD (as I recall?). They seemed pretty cool and I really wanted to work in their little factory rather than the crappy job I had.

Ha! I just saw these. I had two RG brake hood mirrors. They're STILL the only decent mirror you can use with barcons! I wish I could find a replacement.

I'm planning to take mine down to my local sheet metal guy and get some copies made.
