Anyone use a Shimano 600 (FD6207) on a compact crank?

I *may* need to swap a crank with my road bike to one of my vintage bikes for a steep ride. Just wondering if the 80's Shimano 600 front derailleur will work on a compact crank. I know the Ultegra that I have on it now is designed to work with a compact and a regular crank.

Don't really know the science of why it would make a difference.

It'll work fine.

That's what I'd expect, too.

Id be more worried about BB spacing working with the "vintage" crank. A lot of "Vintage" cranks ran Asymmetric BB's. Do some measuring

I successfully ran a 50-34 compact double with a mid-80's 600 front derailleur. I'm pretty sure it's the one you're asking about. I don't have any points of comparison, since it's the only compact double setup I ever used but for my purposes it worked fine.

Awesome! You guys rock. @grim, I'll be using a new Ultegra with outboard BB. I think its the 6600 shimano or something like that.
I have to give up on the high end though. 13-28 freewheel in the rear. 50/13 is pretty low. Oh well, better not to get killed on the uphills.

But man, that IRD compact crank is sooooo sweet looking!!!

Report back how it works out. I'm starting to like the idea of a 50-34 on a couple of my bikes. 39/28 sometimes just isn't enough around here.
Wish 52-36 or 50/36 was a common gear. I really get some use out of the 36 on my touring bike.
