Fuji Finest Custom Racing Bike - $175
I am going to see this bike today. I own a 1976 Fuji Finest and it has all SunTour Superb parts on it. What do you think should be the groupo on this model?
I think $175 is a fair price....any recommendations?

This is not the appraisal forum but it's a steal at that price.

AlphaRed,
1) That bike is a good deal at that price point.
2) It's probably not in your best interest to post the link to the CL ad. Lots of people read these forums. Most don't post. Everyone is looking for a deal like this.

Not a good picture, but from what I can tell, I'm guessing it's a '72-73 model. If so, they came with: DiaCompe centerpull brakes (the Weinmann copies) and levers, SunTour V rear derailleur (short arm, 26 tooth limit), Compe-V (reverse action) front derailleur, SunTour rachet Powershifters with black covers, SunTour freewheel (a lot of them came with 14-19 corncobs), Sugino crankset (the one that's the copy of the Campagnolo Nuevo Record down to chainwheel interchangability), Sunshine hubs (look like Normandy), sew-up rims (can't remember the brand, my bike was converted to clinchers by the previous owner), Nitto Dynamic stem (exposed bolt), Nitto bars, can't remember the name of the seatpost but it's a copy of the Nuevo Record, Fuji branded saddle (hard plastic with a leather cover).
Afraid I can't help on the pedals. When I found mine, the pedals were so rusted out that I just tossed them. Weren't worth saving.

Actually, I have been talking to the seller and I offered him more money to hold the bike for me. I just now talked to him and he was telling me that he had bought the bike about 15 years ago from a guy in New England. The original owner was an engineer and building bikes was his hobby. So the original owner gave the new owner three pages of notes about what he had done to the bike. I like interesting stories.

Syke,
Thank you for that information.
He had sent me some pictures of the bike. I saw the exposed bolt on the stem and I thought it was make shift.

I hope you bought the bike, but I see it's still on CL. That is a nice bike for a low price. As far as not posting a great deal here found on CL it's probably wise not to, but with a population like Denver that prides itself as the cycling mecca of the USA I doubt it would last long anyways. Welcome to the vintage Fuji world.

By the way, you're going to love the way that bike rides (assuming you get it). I'm in kind of a unique position that I've got a '72 Finest (all original except for rims and pedals), and an '03 Finest (by that time, near the bottom of the line, I've got it set up primarily 105). It's amazing that the two bikes ride almost the same. Over the years, the Finest continued to be a double butted chrome moly frame with the geometry remaining virtually the same. Biggest difference is how the bike slipped further and further down the lineup as newer technologies came out.

I am feeling as though this bike is going to be to tall for me. I am sure I can clean it, grease it and flip it if it is. The owner does not know the size but that head tube looks like it may be a 60 cm

I'm surprised in Denver that bike wasn't gone in the first hour not alone a week! It does look like a 60, maybe a 58. 60 usually will fit a 34 inch inseam or longer person.

Unless I'm missing something, the size is posted in the ad: 25" (metric equivalent 63.5cm) which looks about right to me from the photo. Good deal at that price.

From the ad copy: " Great bike for the right owner only asking $175.00 orginally have over $900+ into it rides like a dream and fast..."
Remove the seatpost and check inside the frame for $100 dollar bills - that's the only way there could be $900+ into this bike
Kidding aside, it looks pretty nice.

The original owner did some very nice up grades. TA cranks, Phil Wood BB, Shimano bar cons, Real leather bar wrap,Campy hubs. That is all that I am aware of at this time. There is no rust any where and I don't believe the owner that has had it for the last 15 years ever road it that much.
I took out the seat post. cleaned it, greased it and put on a better saddle.
I pulled the stem out. cleaned and greased and lowered it a notch.
I took the brakes off. de-greased and re-lubed them.
All the stickers are in excellent shape.
The owner was offered more money but he kept his word and held the bike for me.
I could not be more pleased.

This should have been in the Appraisals subforum but since Alpha now owns the bike $ values are no longer really relevant so I'm not moving the thread.
Nice bike and I agree the price was good.
