Could anybody help me identify this Basso, please?

I think the frame is an '88 or 89 GAP with shimano 105 components. In those days alot of bikes at that level came as frames and different kits so other than GAP (if that is what it is) would be the model
Too bad the brake levers were taken off to put the hipster bars on it. |
Your Gap, like my '86, lacks seat tube bottle braze-ons. Mine was one of the very last Gaps to lack those braze-ons. It's a nice frame, but I can't believe anyone put such goofy upright bars on it...

So this should be a Gap, probably '86 at latest?
It's not my bike (yet), believe me I would have never put bars like those on it. This one is on an internet auction in country where I live and that auction will end soon. I'm seriously considering buying it (despite bars and brake levers) since it seems like a potentially decent deal. That's why I needed to know what it is, since I wasn't able to find much information about it.

Thanks, to both of you, for your help. |
I have to decide whether to bid on this bike or not, any more opinions about it?

First things first. Does it fit you? That's most important thing. It's a pretty small bike, and road bikes are pretty much like shoes, if they don't fit they'll hurt! I don't know how tall you are, but it's a bit on the small side for most men.
Secondly, if you want to ride it as a road bike, you have to be prepared to find bars, brake levers and possibly cables to replace the parts on it now. I don't know how mechanically inclined you are, these are easy jobs you can do with a set of hex keys. all these things aside, you can do worse than a Basso gap: they're good quality Italian bikes and certainly look the part! 105 has been a solid seller of the past decades because it offers a good balance between cost and function, perfect for a first bike. |

Probably too small if you are 5'9".... Size is the most important variable. I'd hold off for something that you know fits you. Good luck!

I took your advice and didn't bid for it. It was sold for $120.
Thanks, everyone, for your help. |
