I've had several things 3D printed in plastic (a hard nylon) and a couple in bronze (it is printed in wax and then cast by the lost wax method). There are as lot of materials I haven't tried, including flexible or softer plastic. It might be worth investigating if there's a 3D printable material that would work for hoods. If so, they could be pretty cheap.

Gregaz,

Sorry for your long hunt for the cable stops. I have some Universal mod 125's with the same cable stops. Makes me want to run out to the shed and double check that they are still with them ! I have used Cane creek hoods with these levers and yes, triming will help the fit.

I would love to use these 125's on the 88 Bianchi but they are nutted brakes and the frame requires insert fasteners. Will use the Modolo's for this build. Same problem as yours, no hoods to use and too expensive to buy.

I got the Cane Creek hoods yesterday. The fit is so-so, my hope is that the rubber will stretch and fit better over time. I didn't have to trim the top because I used the smaller (non-original) ferrules.

Here are some pictures:

Yes, Cane Creek stuff usually end up to be so-so hood replacement solutions. I think it has to do with them insisting on a universal design that does not take into account the many slight differences between lever bodies. Frankly, I think they said to themselves "Ehhh...lets just go with the one that looks like Weinmanns. it should be gudenuf!..and there's jillions of them brakesets still out there!.."
Add to that their hardish rubber compound that would not easily take on the shapes under it. That's why I personally cannot consider Cane Creeks for replacement hoods on my brakesets....Unless, maybe, I end up with a Weinmann 500 brakeset on one of my bikes one day.....

Cyclone hoods?

Does anybody know where to find replacement hoods for Suntour Cyclone non-aero brake levers?

Ebay, as often as not, has a decent supply of vintage hoods, NOS and reproductions. I have several sets on hand and pretty sure one set is Suntour. That said, my hoods are not for sale. They are just too had and pricey to get. I even have the little hoods for the Universal 61 levers. This picture, even with the color distortion, shows what reproduction hoods look like. The ones I have, still unused and unmounted, are a bit darker in color and sport tan little hoods...
