1989 Cannodale
Hi all. I picked this up about a month ago. I stripped it down, cleaned it up and finally got it reassembled yesterday. It's in pretty good shape. I touched up some scratches with model car paint. I believe it was assembled in Sep 1988, but the frame is an 1989 3.0 Criterium. It matches almost 100% to the SR500 in the 1988 Cannondale catalog. It has a complete Shimano 105 group, with the excepetion of a Suntour rear Freewheel.
So far the only changes I made are the crankset. I put on a Suntour Sprint crankset since the 105 crankset had black chainrings. I didn't like the look. Some previous owner must have swapped out the BIOpace. I was going to swap out the seat for a lighter one. Last night I went on a 10mi shakedown ride without padded bike shorts, and was surprised at how comfortable the seat was. I don't like the skinwall tire either, but they'll do for now. The stem was also painted white. I stripped the paint and polished it.

Great looking Cannondale! Judging by the looks of the rims it has not seem much use.

I don't think it's been used much either, but the paint was beat up some. You can't see it in the picture, but it had a big scrap down the side. Even the "Cannondale" decal was scrapped. I filled in the white and the blue. You can tell up close.
LOL, My Feet are average, I guess. Those are my old Nashbar MTN bike pedals. My Road shoes aren't very comfortable, so I use my Mountain bike shoes more. The shoes and pedals are at least 15 years old. I should buy some new ones.

Nice! I've found my C'dale to withstand all sorts of abuse, be a great platform for upgrades and still ride great...Enjoy that one.

Nice looking 3.0. I'm doing a similar color scheme to a 93 3.0 R500 I picked up some time ago. It's two-tone blue, and will get the white treatment. Looking forward to riding mine soon.
Enjoy your 3.0!

Thanks for the compliaments. I was originally going to use natural bar tape, and swap out the hoods for black ones. I decided to go stock with it. I've never used white tape before. Hopefully it won't get to dirty too quickly.

I'm the second owner of mine. The original owner's bike shop had a road race team and while having a frame set in a non standard color wasn't an issue for him, he had to take one bike without the aluminum fork (mine ) due to spotty availability.

I find my white hoods are filthy after just 50 miles, Simple Green cleans them nicely. Also, how accurate is the color in the photograph? It looks more Hyper Highlighted Blue than Meridian Blue. My Meridian Blue '89:

Thanks. It was easy. Just a little paint stripper. I sanded with 600 and 2000 to even it out a bit. Then polished with Mothers Aluminum and Mag polish.

If I researched right, I beleive the color to be "Blueberry". Since the bike was built late 1988 it seems to be spec'ed as an 88, even thought the frame is a 1989. Maybe you know how to decipher Serial numbers. It doesn't match anything on the vintage cannondale website, but it is close. The S/N is: 45609880009. I think that is either a 54cm frame, or a 56cm. Built sep 1988, and was #9.

Chuckk, My Cannondale fleet is now down to two 3.0s. The '89 in post #10 and this '95 T700. The T bike was rebuilt with some take-offs from my previous Cannondale builds so it has a surprising OEM look. I am not a fan of fenders and I just install them when they might be needed (The rear was severely tweaked in a crash on another bike.)
