Double Paramount Score

7 Attachment(s)
I was lucky enough to be forst in the CL line and able to pick up an 88 Paramount frame with a full tri-color group and a 1992 Paramount MTB. The road frame now rests in the care of Bilenky to see if they can bend back the fork. They seemed somewhat optimistic. The road is a full Coumbus SL frame set and the MTB is tig welded Tange Prestige.

Glad they fell into good hands. Great job. You'll like that OS frame.
If the fork doesn't work out, look for a CF. The frame's already black.

nikkorod 03-19-12 05:19 PM

Trying to avoid the carbon if I can.

KonAaron Snake 03-19-12 05:36 PM

I was actually 2nd and could have snaked him. Had I known it was nikkorod, I would have! :D

Picchio Special 03-19-12 05:38 PM

That reminds me I have a Tange Japanese Paramount in the garage in need of some TLC and a trip to the LBS.
Nice pick-up!

nikkorod 03-19-12 05:48 PM

You do owe me one.

I agree nice score but are you sure this isn't a Bates fork?

http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...0&d=1332198897

You actualy got people at Bilenky to return an email and you found their hidden shop? I got tired of emailing thema nd tried to drive over to the shop. after sitting in traffic for the better part of 2 hours I ended up driving around a neighborhood that looked like some place i saw on cops. I must have driven around the area for anoth 30 or 40 min but never found it.

You can get an awsome chrome straight blade fork for about 150 from Soma, I would just replace it.

RaleighSport 03-19-12 05:50 PM

That is a gorgeous frameset, nice score!

nikkorod 03-19-12 05:58 PM

I'm not sure what a "bates" fork is.

I live about 10 miles from them, so traveling to their shop is no big deal. The neighborhood isn't that bad. I travel all over region and to me its not bad. Go to Chester. That's bad. I assume they're not the e-mail types. I just walked in. I'd like to keep the original fork or get something close to it.

They're very good at responding to calls...less good w email.

That area is not that bad, it's lower working class Hispanic and they're people with jobs and families. I bike through north Philly to get there and that area is a lot nicer than some others. It is hard to find...the trick is to go past the houses and up the hill. It looks abandoned until you're there.

Of course, if you need a new fork, I bet the Bilenky guys can build one for you.

Also, a word of advice based on personal experience - You might want to make sure the top and down tubes didn't get damaged when whatever ate that fork for lunch was at it. (Tghat looks like one hell of a head-on.) Especially check right behind the underside of the head lugs. While you are at it, do a careful inspection - visual and by feel - of the head tube also. It's likely that damage to these places, if any, is minor enough not to affect the rideability of the frame, but it can't hurt to check. I hope this all pans out for you and I am being overly paranoid.

Great scores! Congratulations! They are both beautiful bikes, bent fork or not! :-)

I checked it out before I bought it. It appears the fork absorbed all the damage. There was no buckling, cracking or paint cracking that I could see to indicate any damage. I also asked Bilenky to give it a once over just to have their blessing. They said they have something "laying around" for me if it doesn't pan out.

Your fork looks sort of like the one which came on my '39 New World Schwinn.

repechage 03-19-12 07:37 PM

I would think Belinky would advise new blades at least.

nikkorod 03-19-12 07:49 PM

My guess is it will go that direction, but I wanted to try it first.

He paid $175 bux for the road bike and PDG70 mountain bike. My scorn cup runeth over.......he is family, so I can talk about him that way. I was third in line. Sibling rivalry can get ugly.......

ilikebikes 03-19-12 08:54 PM

I'm sure there's a Paramount fork on Philly C list.

John E 03-19-12 09:01 PM

I think you'll like the mountain bike -- I have the preceding version (see signature).

nikkorod 03-20-12 06:33 AM

Can't wait to try that out. I have obtained a nice collection of vintage MTB's and this one is a nice addition. The rear wheel and der. are not original, but everything else is in good condition.

Excellent. I only know Bilenky by reputation, pictures and seeing their work at the last San Jose NAHBS, but from all that I have heard, i would certainly trust what they have to say.

Nice score, by the way. I'm guessing it's all the sweeter for having aced out your brother on the deal . . . .

gmouchawar 03-20-12 12:57 PM

Nice score. These forks show up on ebay all the time and they are reasonably priced. You may not find the exact color so may be you have to have the fork painted to match.
