Now on to some thanks to others for their generosity: frankthewelder, RobbieTunes, rhm, rootboy, Henry III, pastorbobnlnh. I'm sure there are others too, so I'll just say a blanket Thank You to all for their shared wisdom and generosity in sharing and helping here on the forums. There is one thing that you MUST do for us. Take some pictures of the Milremo stems on a bike! Please? :) |
Here we go, I'm sure I'll miss someone and I apologize if I do
RHM, although not totally a thanks because it's his fault that I developed a thirst for vintage steel UsaZorro, Southpawboston, Zaphodbeeblebrox, Junkyardbike, Holiday-76, Colonel, Noglider, Robbietunes, Konaaronsnake,Treebound and Iowegian. That should do it Thanks guys! |
More people than I can count, or remember, have helped me out, unsolicited.
My biggest worry is that I'm going to leave a debt to any one of them unfilled... Thanks to all. Gratitude. |

Roger M - Univega frameset, Peugeot hybrid, Sakae CR crankset, brakes for the Univega. He's always willing to help just like most of the C&V folks.

I've been the beneficiary of several generous C&Vers over the years. In additional to the countless many who simply take the time to offer useful advice, a special THANK YOU again to:
Roger M (DA 7400 brake lever band) Grand Bois (simplex pulleys) vjp (cable guide) jan nikolajsen (hi-res reference photos) miami jim (avocet 30 mounting hardware) :thumb: |
There's this scripture verse, which President Obama misused earlier this year when he was advocating for a different income tax structure:
"From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded." (Luke 12:48 In actuality, this is the conclusion of a longer passage which addresses the topic of knowing the right thing to do in the context of the event. The person who gets it "right" is the one who responds appropriately, who genuinely helps using his/her's full potential, even exceeding the expectations of the recipient, and the perceived capability of the person providing. I view my dump and my collection of spares filling my basement in this way. If someone here or in my community needs a bike part, or a bike, and low and behold it is sitting in my basement, or I can lend a wrench, or true a wheel, or clean and polish their frame, and in the process it brings joy to their hearts, then I am impelled to do so. Not from guilt or obligation, but in joy of friendship! In the process of giving, I have received 10 fold from this internet Bike Community we refer to as "C&V." Bless you all for being so generous--- with your knowledge, your kindness, your creativity, and your spare bike parts! My list of those who I've thanked stretches back almost 7 years, and I'm certain it will continue to grow in the years ahead. |
While many have treated me well over the years. Big thanks to CMC SanDiego for helping out with a facilitating with a CL bike. Shipping today!

I'm afraid of responding to this thread because so many have helped me that I fear I'll insult someone by forgetting to thank them...honestly, nearly everyone here deserves my gratitude! Anyway, here goes!
First, I'd like to thank the Academy. In no particular order: Gomango - sheesh, so much! Advice, parts and friendship. Oldfatguy - here or not, Gratzie! You know why. CDM - I would never have heard of Marnati, much less owned one, without you. And, of course, there's everything else. Noglider - so much stuff, knowledge and advice. You, sir, are a pip! Chris in Miami - kind and generous help facilitating my addiction. Oregon Southpaw - the same. BBM - likewise, and for misc. phone calls. Robbie - one of the most kind and generous people I've ever encountered. Your decency humbles me. Scott and Fender - riding, parts, etc. Zaphod - great advice, great insight and help with parts. The man has a drum brake IGH for Gods sakes!!! Randy - parts help and advice, a help to all who ask. BianchiGirl - great advice, insight and tips. 4ring - just a great guy, and really came through on a part! Bulldogge - see above! Rocket - for helping look at bikes, even if it never happened. Miamijim, Wrk and Cudak for ALWAYS giving great pricing insight. Khatful - a gentleman and scholar...LOVED that saddle! This is NOT inclusive; I know there are people I left off who I owe and I apologize in advance, it's a lot to type on an iPhone. Thanks to everyone here for giving me a great distraction and fun place to hang. |
About 4 years ago I retired a Nishiki Olympic 12 that I had ridden for 35 years. I never looked at other bikes because my bike was all I ever needed. I started learning about steel vintage bikes 4 years ago in order to replace my old Nishiki, and I have spent lots of time and trial and error with Pinarello, Bianchis, Faggin, Battaglin, Merckx, DeRosa, etc. and the one person who helped me more than anyone else was OFG (OldFatGuy)! John I don't know if you monitor the site still, but here's a huge shout out to OFG. I wish he were back and I wish he were granted the same clemency as we give to other people in society. So here's to you, John! Thanks for all your help!

+1...I know John could be outspoken and difficult (unlike, say, the rest of us), but that guy really brought a lot to the table, and was extremely helpful. I know that I personally owe him a debt, as do others here.
