New rims, for that C&V look. Any suggestions?
 

Riding today, had a blowout on a brand new tubular, with no pre-stretched, pre-glued tire with me. Less than fifty miles on it. :D

...Anywayyyyys, 'tis what it is. However, I am now in the market for a set of clincher rims. If anyone has any suggestions or can point me to a set that are new, but have a nice classic look to them, I would greatly appreciate it.

Rims with these specs would be ideal:

700c
Black preferably.
I have about $120 for a new set, something with good quality for around this price, maybe up to $150.
Machined.
Don't care about the spoke count either, as I am ordering spares at well.
Moderate to Extreme riding.

I really like my 'H plus Son' ceramic finish clinchers (if that classic ceramic grey might work)...clinchers, perfect for 23mm tire, look like old Wolber or Mavic sets. Seem solid so far. Mine are 32h, laced to 105 hubs. I don't recall the price offhand, but they were pretty reasonable.

i like the sun m13ii. in either polished or black. got mine recently for $35/ea shipped. with sapim db spokes going for 40 cents, you could build two sets for around $200... if you have the hubs of course.

Mavic open pros in black, take the stickers off. Great rims. They are a bit pricey though. H-Plus son rims are WIDE at 22mm, just like the Velo Orange rims are wide too 22mm . The SunM13 are narrower.

You don't care about the spoke count? Are you buying hubs, too? If so, you should be looking for complete wheels. It's cheaper that way.

Well, I was just going to look around at some suggestions. I have a set of 32h Mavic hubs that I am going to use.

I really like those Mavic Open Pros... Very tempting. :D

do they come in freewheel?

You can get Freewheel or Cassette hubs.

Another vote for h plus son tb-14s. I just got a set of the hard ano (gray) and think they look great. meant to be paired with 23mm tires but you can go wider as well. They also come in solid black. I think retail is around $80 but I've seen them for as low as 65.

I may have a set of 32 hole, dark anodized, Wolber Super Champion Alpinas if you are interested.

Then you do care about the spoke count.
