The car guys are imitating us now - '67 Shelby G.T. 500 barn find

https://bangshift.com/blog/1967-shelb...alifornia.html

This 1967 Shelby GT500 is a true time capsule and the owner knows it. He is having the 428 pulled out to get cleaned up internally and once it is ready to run, it is going back in the car and he is leaving the exterior untouched, which we think is boss!

Refurbished, but not restored. Gotta love it.

If it wasn't for the flaked paint on the hood, all it really needs is a bit of Scratch X on the exterior.

That guy is an idiot. Needs minor restoration work, with paint touch up.

True, a partial repaint could be blended into the rest, but there's no reason to do a hog-wild resto on it and lose whatever there is of the originality.

Concidering the Glass hood has the typical cracks around the scoop area, the hood needs a complete redo. Painting the headlight surrounds at the same time would be great.

In my mind, it makes sense to paint a pony car like that only to address RUST - the mortal enemy of sheet-metal.
Shy of that, I'd prefer to preserve its history, its character, much as I would with any C&V bike.

Where's the imitation? Barn find was a car term long before it was a bike term.

That shelby needs some love for sure.

Locally there is now Bugatti that was found at the bottom of a lake in Europe. It sold for close to 4 million and is now on display at a private car museum, as found. Only satn clear lacquer to stabilize it.

The subordinate bidder was planning on a full restoration.

Little shot of Bugatti touch-up paint from the local auto parts store, some Bondo here and there, and a little ...

I bought my last Pog from a guy with an original 427 AC Cobra in his garage covered with 2cm of dust and pigeon poop. I wept.

The guy who does my powder coating (Longwoods metal finishing) does crazy restorations of car bodies that are completely shot or so it would seem. He had a rare Ford convertible that was missing at least 50% of the metal and he had it looking new in a year or so.

1967 Shelby Mustangs GT500 came with 428cid Big block. The 429 did not start to appear in the mustang until 1969. Hence the BOSS 429 Mustang. There were a few GT500's that had the 427 medium riser engine.
