Bianchi ID.
 

Just got given this Bianchi from a co-worker.

It's a fairly low level japanese bike with suntour arx goodies. I'm guessing mid 80's.

It's in rough shape, and most likely the many of the parts will be used to lighten up the significant others peugot mixte...

Anyways, any comments are appreciated.

no expert but looks like a 81 82 Piaggio. just a good solid rider, commuter bike

It doesn't look all that rough to me, it just needs some elbow grease. I think you'd be amazed. Suntour arx doesn't get a lot of love, but I find it a very reliable group with great shifting. Great system for tightening the cables too! I've seen that tubeset a few times on japanese bikes. I think the PG stands for Plain Gauge. Looks to me that with some new bar tape and a new saddle you'd have a pretty cool bike.

Just checked out the wheelset... think they're early shimano 600 uniglide laced to mavic ma2. stoked to find a decent wheelset. Hubs desperately need repacking, so hopefully the races are in ok shape. Need to be trued to.

The bikes to big for me, so I will have to decide whether to rebuild and flip it, or borrow the parts and try to sell the frame for cheap. The frame is rougher than it looks in though photos.. lots of surface rust.. but it seems to be good structurally.

I wonder what made you say it was Bianchi? Izzat what the guy who gave it to you said? If so, I wonder why he thought it was? No matter.

Anyway, you said you were stoked to find a decent wheelset. Thoser are good wheels already! The MA2 is a very solid, narrow rim and the early 600 hubs are great. In fact, I've been running a pair of 600s on my Peugoet for decades, with an MA2 on the rear. Unless you can't get them trued properly I see no reason to replace the wheels. Clean up the bike, re-pack the various bearings, examine the tires and replace if necessary, check the various cables and the derailleur adjustments, then ride and enjoy.

It has remains of Bianchi decals on the downtube and a headbadge decal. I assumed these are original. Is there reason to believe it is not a Bianchi?

Sorry for the confusion, but I am stoked to find a decent wheelset.. meaning I'm happy to find this wheelset. I will be repacking them and truing them if possible.

If that frame doesn't fit, if I were you I would just strip absolutely all the parts off of it and transfer them onto another nice frame with standard threading. The wheelset is awesome and in my opinion the components are great too. Even if you went the ebay route on the frame, you'd still be doing alright because everything else was free.

A Piaggio Bianchi? I believe for a time (and maybe still are) all Bianchis were Piaggios because that was the cnglomerate that owns Bianchi. Kind og like Lockheed/Martin for Italian bikes and stuff.

It looks to me like maybe a '83ish Special here int he states. Ours did not come with a chrome fork just chrome 'socks' so it could be a replacement.

The wheels are very likely replacements.
