If there's one good thing I can say about about carbon, it's that it doesn't cost much to ship! It'd be a shame to waste a perfectly functional IGH by mating it to a carbon fiber frame.

In this week's exciting episode of Criminal Minds:
Bodies start to disappear in seemingly random locations through the country. The team discovers loathsome acts of torture, all of which are performed with a rear derailleur. A gruesome trophy seems to be missing at all locations...3 speed IGHs are missing from all of the bicycles at the crime scenes. Can the team stop the "High Gear Killer" before he strikes another path racer?

If it was sitting here in the Twin Cities I would have bought it.
Too much effort to ship atm.
True enough though about the paint.
They are bright little gems, aren't they.

I like the paint job, looks to be 60cm, my size. If I understand correctly, Zunow is a good bike, so the price is probably very fair. Out here in the Portland area...Oregon...I'd never get even a shot at that bike because people would be lining up to buy it a microsecond after it was posted on craigslist.

I had one just like this, in somewhat worse condition. This is a second tier Zunow, nothing like a Z-1. Note that it is a "Hummingbird by Zunow". Apart from the wild paint job, I found it rather ordinary.

It doesn't have fancy lugs or crimped tubes or chromed stays, etc. definitely a cheaper Zunow, and it's got a lot of drive side chain stay rust to boot.
And those paint jobs are hard to duplicate during restoration!

A preservationist would not even *think* about repainting that bad boy.

Oh man, I didn't notice the posting date. I hope I didn't just make someone else's April Fools joke explode. My apologies to the forum if I did.

in case anyone was wondering, here's the Zunow hierarchy (roughly)
Top end:
- Z-1 (typically have a bi-plane brake mount on straight seat stays, although some have a fillet-brazed wishbone and curved seat stays & chain stays)
- Beradonna (has fancy chromed "Fleur-de-lis" lugs)
- Aercs (aero road bike, similar to Cinelli Laser)
Mid range:
- DiPicce (typically feature lugged wishbone seat stays)
- KYGM (Zunow's "semi-custom" line of road & touring frames from the late 70's-early 80's, sometimes built with Nervex lugs)
Entry level:
- Hummingbird
Other:
- Lepton (aero time trial bike)
- lugged carbon frames similar to Exxon Graftek
- other crazy time trial designs, not sure of the names
- some mountain bike designs, not sure if they had names
Also worth noting that there are track / pista versions of the DiPicce and Z-1. I've never been able to conclusively determine whether Zunow's track bikes were NJS-approved or not; they are typically not included in lists of NJS builders.
