wheels replacement for Women Schwinn World Sport
can anyone suggest a place where to find cheap wheels for a Schwinn World Sport? This is a made in taiwan bike that had 27 x 1 1/4. I think it's a '92. I paid $120 for this bike and both wheels got stolen (in addition to kickstand and mudflaps ) so I would not want to spend more than $40/50 for both.
I have seen some Schwinn wheels on ebay marked "S-6", would those fit? How do I know if any 27" will fit?
I am located in chicago if anybody know any local place otherwise I will have to resort to ebay/online.

I bought basic 27 1/4 wheels from Amazon for under $30 a piece. They are sold through Niagara Cycles and if you go to their website, the shipping is almost $50 bucks. But through Amazon, I forgot, but shipping was really low. And its the same wheels!

i checked that website and they have many 27".
Would this work?
Wheel Front 27 x 1-1/4 Silver, Bolt On, 5/16 Axle Hub, 14g UCP Spokes, 36H
how do i read all those numbers? 5/16 axle?
which shipping it comes to $60, isn't even worth it?

If you don't have quick release, don't worry about the 5/16 axle. That's standard size. That's pretty much what I got with quick release and that's the price I got for a PAIR of wheels. That's the price for a PAIR right? I think mine where Weinmann alloys.

+4.876,321 Put a WTB ad in your local C/L. I typically find nice used wheelsets for $50 or less, and they usually come with tires, tubes, cassette and skewers. In over 300 bikes rehabbed, I have yet to have bought a single new wheel. OK, its going to happen eventually. But I have a healthy stash of spare used wheelsets, so I don't see buying new wheels in the near future.

No offense, but...IMHO...you might not get your money's worth if you go overboard putting money into that bike. See if you can catch an inexpensive bike with quick release alloy wheels to ride, or use for parts (i.e., wheels). Garage sale season is starting...you never know...who cares what it is as long as it has the right wheels. As far as a used set of wheels...look for quick release alloy wheels that spin true, without up and down "hops". Also, make sure the rims aren't dented or gouged up from riding with flat tires. Good tires and tubes is also important, since that is another $40+. Again, this can get to be an expensive proposition.

Xxtraloud,
I have an old World Sport in the garage I picked up in a multi-bike deal a few weeks ago. I don't remember the exact specifics but I know that the freewheel is a 5 speed with some rust on it. If you are interested I can get you a description. They are 27x1-1/4 as I remember. I am not going to want a lot for the wheels as I already have most of my investment out of the bike in other parts.
I will need your zip code to figure shipping costs. Post on this thread if you are interested.
