Source for handlebar-mounted stopwatch holder?

I've seen photos of these here and there but can't seem to find a source. They're basically a little metal clip that holds a stopwatch at the top and bottom and clips onto the handlebar:

Anybody know of where I can get one?

Thanks!

New style!

Really? I have a nice vintage Avocet computer I will let go of. Sometimes older isn't better.

Really - I am planning on mounting a vintage Minerva 30-second stopwatch on it and using it for intervals. I'm weird that way :)

There have been threads about GPS and clipless recently, I think it's getting to me.

Drillium Dude 04-08-12 08:34 PM

^

And Ergopower, too - what's getting into everyone lately?

Ummm...wait a minute....

Never mind :)

DD, they come up on ebay.uk every once in a while, expensive! If I remember correctly, close to $100 US without the watch. good luck!

Now that's pretty cool! Maybe we'll have to fab something. I've been thinking about getting an old-school stop watch lately for some reason.

Drillium Dude 04-08-12 08:44 PM

^ It is cool, huh? And I could always mount a pocketwatch in it, too - thus negating the need for a wristwatch and avoiding a tan-line on my left wrist :)

Guess I'll have to keep an eye out on the UK side of Ebay - and be prepared to pay through the nose a little. Thanks!

I have not seen one of those in years, not that I have been looking for one. You need to try some old bike shops or the bay.

Try Milwaukee/Bens Cycle, write and ask them. Maybe Yellow Jersey.

If worst comes to worst I`m pretty sure a seat clamp with some meccano might do the trick some how

BluesDaddy 04-08-12 09:17 PM

Try Old Spokes Home in Burlington VT. Very nice and they ship.

Drillium Dude 04-08-12 09:44 PM

^ Thanks - found them on the Web, and I'll try them on Tuesday to see if they have anything in stock.

The company is Terry and they're known as a 'stopwatch clip'. Looks like they pop up on UK eBay from time to time.

Thanks to lostarchitect for locating a Terry's on Hilary Stone's site. I emailed HS and have been waiting for a reply, however, look what I found totally by accident yesterday on the 'Bay:

For about $170 shipped I got the Trackmaster and Milremo clip. HS wanted 25GBP for just the clip. I'm happy :)

Thanks to everyone for their inputs and suggestions. Andy, once it arrives we'll have to see if we might be able to duplicate it.

You're so right :)

But how many of those guys/gals are going to be able to use their iPhone w/app 30+ years from now?

Mechanicals rule!

DD

Andycapp 04-15-12 03:05 PM

^^ SWEET! $170 a bit rich for me, but that things just awesome. There's the power of positive thought for you:)

In 30 years us C&V'ers will still be rocking Columbus SL or Tange Super Prestige outfittted with Nuovo/super Record and 600 arabesque long after these carbon wonders with Di2 have stopped working.

devinfan 04-15-12 03:41 PM

Congrats Drillium Dude, that is by far the coolest thing I've seen in a while. Now does anyone know where I can find a compass with similar clip and design? Whenever I check on ebay all I get is those plastic bell/compass combo ones.

Drillium Dude 04-15-12 03:46 PM

^ Thanks - and you have the right idea about a traditional compass/mount. Hmmm...stopwatch on the left, compass on the right...?

Now you've got me thinking ;)

My bars are going to end up looking like a dashboard!

I made a thread about these a year ago and found some new clips for less than $20.

German Hanhart sold for $31.00

Swiss Minerva sold for $55.00

Swiss Breitling (Wakmann) sold for $49.99

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/VINTAGE-BREIT...7E%7E60_58.JPG

Swiss Fischer-Heuer sold for $61.99

There are some really good deals out there at the moment. As stopwatches were/are used but a fraction of the time compared to a pocket/wristwatch, they tend to be in very good mechanical and cosmetic shape, too.

you bought the the ebay item I identified!

Drillium Dude 04-16-12 09:00 AM

^ No way - that was the auction you were referring to? I was doing a search for "Heuer stopwatch" and found it. And I was on normal Ebay, with the caveat "Worldwide". What a coincidence :)

Well, thanks anyway for throwing that out there the other day (and yeah, I thought your auction was for a clip-only)!

DD

Velognome 04-16-12 12:34 PM

DD- Glad you found one! Now you tell everyone " How long it's been since:

The last climb
The last traffic light
The last water stop
the last roadkill

Oh you should be very popular on the next group ride.

Seriously, a good find. I've eyed them for many years but could never pull the trigger....your a greater man then I by far DD...enjoy it !

Drillium Dude 04-16-12 07:15 PM

^

Should be a fun toy/gadget that will give me the info I want. And I may just end up calling out the time gaps between the things you point out above ;)

BTW, I'm doubly happy now that I went with this setup - HS emailed me back this morning to let me know the Terry's clip is no longer available.

I'll dig up this thread again in a week or so once the watch/clip arrives and add some pics after I've gotten it mounted and ready to go.
