UO-10, Gussied-up City-style

This bike was my father-in-law's. He toted my wife around on the back...way back. It's undergone a few iterations in my possession (father-in-law still alive and very nice, just not biking). This latest rebuild is readying for a child seat for my boy, Caleb. Figured I might as well make it look a little classy in the process. Please excuse the out of whack rear pad - photos taken after the first spin around. I took off the cleared-over decal(?) on the seattube. I've never liked that checker fade-out. The bands are just white elec. tape with 3 coats of butcher's wax. No idea how this will hold up, but it looks hottsie-tottsie now! Suggestions on a particular saddle bag?

Thanks to Neil Lerner for the swap that finished the build.

Wow, that looks great. I love the seat-tube stripes, I'm with you on the checkered fade. I'll be interested to see how they hold up, if they do I may have to copy you on one of my frames.

Great story to it, as well - generations. Caleb may ride this around with his child someday.

Very attractive! How is the handling with the upright bars?

Wow, great call on the seat tube. Love practically everything about this build--HF Record hubs, ratcheted Suntour barcons, wider tires, VO bits... Well done.

Thanks all! I hadn't even thought about Caleb potentially riding this thing someday. That would mean he turns out tall like me!

The handling with upright bars...not a lot to compare to, since this is my first out of the drops. I've only taken it around my neighborhood to check the gearing, etc. No extended climbs or descents, but it's intended for light trail and path and some daycare commuting 2 miles away. If anything the steering feels a little jumpy at slow speed, but the wheelbase feels good 'n stable.
