Tomassini Super Prestige with Reynolds 531
Has anyone seen a Sini super prestige with 531 tubing? I was under the impression they were all Columbus.... then I found one with 531. Any thoughts? Think the frameset is worth 300 (has only cosmetic scratches)? I can post pics.
Tanks.
edit: Reynolds 501 - will post pics of frame decal.
Any information on legitimacy is appreciated
Scratch on headtube is the worst of it - from running into a telephone pole cable support at night

A Super Prestige with minor cosmetic issues? IMHO $300 would be a very good price! Not sure about the 531 thing. I certainly have never seen one. Maybe the things worth $5000 because it's (hold your breath) RARE!!!!

+1 - please post some pictures, then post them again in our "Tommasini Lounge".
I've never heard of Tommasini using Reynolds tubing either, but what do I know? For $300... step away from the computer, don't walk, RUN down there and buy it, if it's not gone!

A Tommasini is a special bicycle to me, so I would really go after one of these if all is correct.
OFG called to chat the other day, and he reports nothing but solid enthusiasm about his new Tommasini as well.
Wonderful chatting with him about the bike, of course.
When an admired bike guy like him gives the thumbs up, it's a solid endorsement.
I will admit though, I haven't seen one in 531.
I need to see frame details, not decals please.

Is this OFG's Tomassini? If it is, that guy knows what he's doing:

treetrunks, I doubt you have a Tomassini. Promised pictures would sure help.

OFG has forgotten more about fine vintage bikes than most of the "experts" here will ever know. The forum is poorer for his absence.

sure looks like the frame is the real thing, but the decals look suspect: can't tell if the main decal is a re-pop or what. Wonder why anybody would put 501 re-pops on a frame that was likely built from a (better) Columbus tubeset, maybe they had a soft spot for mid-range Peugeots but had to settle on an Italian stallion.
One obvious clue: look up the fork steerer with a flashlight: any rifling at the base?

When you pulled the fork, did it have markings on it? Columbus has a dove, and is usually rifled. A Super Prestige 'should' be SLX, you should be able to see/feel rifling in the seat tube at the bottom bracket.
If you send Tommasini the serial number and pictures, they can tell you for sure.

Re-pop decals or not, the big question is... Did you buy it? I think i'd eat Ramen noodles for a couple weeks if i found that for $300!

Thanks for the advice, I will check that when I get back home Monday. Will post pics in the Sini lounge too. New prospective build is a bit of a bride of Frankenstein (still a student and spend all my money on the frameset - so using up my "box o parts"). Mostly '91 vintage though. Cinelli stem/bars. S Record headset. NOS S Record 135 bcd cranks. S record FD. New Nitto seat post. Dura-ace pedals, Dura ace RD and downtube shifters. Dura-ace 8 sp uniglide hubs to Campy Omega rims. New Chorus BB and brakes. Brooks saddle. Can't wait to get on top.
