Frame Help!

I just started building this bike. Does any one know why it says, "Prix de Cannes" on the top tube. I thought it is specific to this bike, but I read somewhere else that another Mercier had that on the top tube.

I has a "crown" with Mercier engraved below it. This is located on the fork crown.

Vitus Rear Drop outs, Serial number is on the bottom of the BB, I don't have it on hand though.

Just interested in what model it is and maybe what year? Also it was built with Columbus Tubing.

Thanks!

translated - prize of cannes (a posh town in france)

I had a 'le velo de mercier' like this once, and I think it was made in around 1990 but made to look retro. My laptop battrie is about to run out, il be back

Thanks for the info. I know the company went out of business in 1984, so it has to be before that. I found a similar looking model on this website but the fork is different. http://www.cycleexif.com/mercier-le-velo

I think mercier became 'le velo de mercier' at some point in time.

So if you seach 'le velo de mercier' you might find your bike and more information. I like the chrome rear end and the chrome forks, and the columbus tubing is good stuff.

On the le velo de mercier I had the rear brake cable was routed inside the toptube of the frame. I think this route of cabling was popular after 1986 ish.

Your frame has what I guess is an early 80's rear brake cable route with the braze ons.

Yeah I'm finding that the "Le Velo de Mercier" is almost another model even though it just means " bicycle from Mercier"
