Help Upgrading an old mixte
Hi, I am considering the possibility to buy this old lady for my wife.

Rabasa Derbi was a spanish maker which ended itīs activity as bike builder in the late eighties.
As you see it has a 3 speed casette and simplex derailleur.
My doubt is, I have a a wheelset with a 6 speed casette and a shimano rx 100 derailleur + a shimano 105 gear lever. Would it be possible to use those components with that frame?
Thank you.

Any idea what the rear spacing is? The frame is steel, so you could cold set the rear spacing to fit the 6 speed wheel if needed. Nice looking bike -- I like the swoop of the top tubes.

For all intents and purposes, the bike you are considering is much like this old Made in Italy Chiorda, which proved to be just perfect for the lady I built it for. Your bicycle is of a slightly higher quality, based on what I see in the pictures.

The rear derailleur and shifters, if compatible with each other, will work with the frame set. You might find it difficult to fit a front derailleur, though, since there is limited room, under the curved top tubes, to do so. A low profile front derailleur will do the trick if you set it up carefully...

Bad news.. the droputs distance is just 110mm.
What can I do with that?
My main concern is not the fact of having just 3 speeds, itīs that I am afraid it wonīt be enough for moving along the slopes of my city..

That is a very pretty bike!! Mixte bicycles are so classy.
I would not be too concerned with the fact the drops are only 110mm. I have coldset frames from 120 to 132.5 without problem. You'll probably need a longer bottom bracket spindle to keep the chain line correct, but steel frame bikes can be very versatile.

Hmm whatīs the procedure for coldseting a frameset? Can it be done at home with common tools? It sounds like the main problem could be moving a dropout more than the other right?

If the tubing is nothing special, if the price is right, I'd coldset it to 130. It looks like a pretty tought frame, IMHO.

Perfect for a IGH, or leave it a 3speed and add a double chainring making it 6 speeds
Our LBS owner is a frame builder and does repairs, we had this discussion yesterday, a 10mm change is the max he feels comfortable with older thin tubing. 20mm is ok but only for heavier stuff.

randyjawa,
Your frame has a bend in the head tube stays at a completely different location, much lower than the OP.
An UltraSix would work with a 120 spacing as well. You can use an 8spd chain with it too.
