Raleigh Colt frame
 

I've got a chance to buy a Raleight Colt frame, fork, headset, stem, fenders, crank, chainring and chaingaurd for a really decent price. What do you guys think of this bike? is it worth building up? Although not all the correct Raleigh parts I do have all the parts needed for the build. What say you?

Great little bike. I bought one for my sister a while back (a '64 model). For the smaller woman (or man, or kid) looking for a Raleigh Sports sort of bike, it's perfect. I still admire the perfect paint and pinstripes on my sister's bike whenever I see it.
If the price is right, why not?

Is it a 24"? I don't see much market for them, so I wouldn't bother flipping it. On the other hand, they're really cute. If you or someone you know fits it, it would be hard to beat.

Colts are basically a small frame size Sports they use the 26" wheel. The Space Rider is the 24" wheeled version. My wife has two Colts and rides both of them.

@ the OP, if you have someone that can use it, fix it up and let them roll.

The Colt is one of my favorite Raleigh bicycles. The curved top tube looks way cool. I almost bought one a while back, but then someone told me that it'd be way too small for me to ride, so I abandoned the idea.

Depending on the model year the Colt is essentially a 17" Sports frame without pump braze-ons supplied with a longer seat-post and shorter crank-arms on the chain-set. They were meant to buy bought for teenagers and then merely adjust the seat-post height and change the chain-set to turn into an adult sized bike. They are actually perfect for shorter people.

Well I picked it up and started building it right away, and now its almost complete! I went with an old Shimano 333 grip shift! and its working perfectly! everything I added I took off of an old German girls bike and its all in working order. All I need is a seat post and a decent old white seat/saddle. Will post pics in the A.M. :)

Still havn'r cleaned her up and she still needs a new chaun, seat post, and seat/saddle. Oh, and cotter pin nuts.

Whoah, that's turned out really nicely so far. :) Am I correct to assume that you used the Shimano hub because that's what you had laying around?

That's starting to look like a fun rider! I've used Shimano grip shifter setups whenever I've found them, with no cause for regret.
Good job so far, please keep us up with the project.

I picked up a small lot of three bikes this weekend, amongst them was a girls bike with the Shimano 333 grip shift and rearwheel, so I just swaped everything over inluding the wheels pedals bars and brake levers. :)

I like these. There's a nice looking red one chained up outside a bar in my neighborhood. I don't know if it's abandoned or not, but I'm hoping to see a "for sale" sign on it at some point. I don't have any specific use for it, but I'm sure I could find a friend who'd love it.

There is a decent market for Colts and Space Riders...most people just don't know it. I have had a Space Rider offered to me and it went straight to a very petite young lady that needed a bike for college/work. We had been searching for a Raleigh Twenty for her but the Space Rider popped up first. My wife cannot ride a standard Sports in the 19" frame...to large, the 17" Colt is a perfect fit. There are many women in the 5' height range and the Colts and Space Riders are a prime choice.

Yeah, I may keep it, depends on what the two Peuguots that came in the lot look like, havn't had a chance to really check them out yet. If I keep one of those the Colt may have to go.
