Bike makeover or randyjawa is a legend
We all know that anyway, but I just wanted to publically thank Randy for his help with getting some components together for my bike build. Most things went together swimmingly well and luckily I had a great local-to-me vintage bike guy helping me do the actual build, so we were set!
Here's the before:
It had Shimano Positron that was barely functional (well, it was a functional single-speed!) and the brakes hardly worked, especially with the steel rims.
Now (excuse blurry photos!):
Still to come - Brooks Honey Flyer and when that comes, shellacked cork grips

I'm really happy with the way this has turned out and can't wait to get that Brooks on it to complete the effect!

Excellent! Bike looks MUCH improved with the Arabesque stuff on it. Nice work on rookgirl's bike Randy!

The rack is actually just an Axiom! It's very low profile and inexpensive!

That's a DeLuxe model now. Looks like it will be up for many an errand and the lighter parts should make for a sprightly ride.
If I were building it, wouldn't change a thing, but it would have a bunch of extra reflectors, at least for use around here.
For daytime-only use, looks perfect.

Thanks! The tires are Panaracers (folding) and they were verrrrrry hard to mount on those rims! It was really hard to even mount hte first bead (or not-bead)! The second took about 30 mins with both me and professional bike mech. So an hour just mounting tires, LOL!

I read somewhere that putting the tyres in the tumble drier for a while makes them easier to mount....

Thanks! I thought a hair dryer but by then we were in! The real prob is that they are very rubbery with no head so they grip onto the outside of the rim, even with an application of windex!

Great looking bike. I've got a pair of Shimano handlebar shifters similar to yours. I'm considering mounting one of them on my Raleigh Sports.

rookgirl - I did not realize that you needed the chain stay clamp, the bottom bracket guide or the clamp on the down tube. Let me see a picture of how you have your front derailleur cable set up, close up from the non-drive side please and include most of the bottom bracket to derailleur area. Armed with that, I will know what brackets and clamps to send.
