Nice frame, $58.00

Anyone know why no one else bid?

You're the only guy who wanted it?

Seems so....

Looks interesting, looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
Maybe it was one one of those times when "you" were meant to have it ;)

Cheers,
Chris

Looks nice, do you know anything about its origins?

whatwolf 05-06-12 04:29 PM

Yeah, looks like a good score. Let me know if you want a blingy french stem for that thing :)

No, not a thing. I don't know if braze ons were added or original. Camp vertical droputs are somewhat rare, don't know if those were added either...

Thanks, looks way too long for me: I'm in the 90-100 range. Actually, I think I have a Cinelli stem in French I've been saving for about 20 years!

mapleleafs-13 05-06-12 04:29 PM

probably cause it's french, who wants to deal with french threading anyways

After 40 years, I guess I've gotten over my fear of all things French... seem to be all I find these days. There are cheap French cups and headsets on ebay these days.

Looks to be a good deal. Good luck with it.

I had one French frame and got feed up with all the odd sizing and threw it in the trash. Lesson learned and never again. Roger

ecnewell 05-06-12 05:14 PM

Nice score, have fun with it! Can't see any reason it would go so cheap other than it was meant to be :)

repechage 05-06-12 05:15 PM

The rear dropouts look original to me, the style would be hard to rework and get to look like that. The fork looks "wrong" I would expect it to have the same treatment at the ends for me to think its original. The rake just looks lower level that the frame. No name frames often get overlooked on ebay. Remember that "Gios" that had a Gios fork and appeared nice Italian but just not in concert with the fork? It went cheap too, if I had remembered to snipe or be there at the end I probably would have bought it... Just too many other projects at the ready, staring at me wanting attention.

Well, they say they'll refund any shipping cost over a dollar...

Just arrived today, seems like a very nice frame. Threading is English, not French, though seatpost is 26.4. Fork dropouts are not Campagnolo like rear, so maybe fork is from something else...

wrk101 05-14-12 03:58 PM

+1 Lack of clarity on shipping cost, no original paint or decals, no brand, all marketing hurdles. Such hurdles can result in a nice deal for the buyer.

Although shipping comment says will refund everything over $1, unless I know the method, how he packs it, etc., shipping cost can be all over the map.

Cost $135. total with packing and shipping, still a bargain it seems.

It could be mid-to-late 80's Peugeot. Although, it seems rare to find a Peugeot with Campy DO's.

Totally worth it, IMO.

noglider 05-14-12 05:03 PM

Hunting down the right parts may take time, but I suspect you won't regret this. And if you need help, send me an email, as I have a few French-spec components.

whatwolf 05-14-12 05:06 PM

So, normal steerer, normal BB? That's lucky! Great color, too.

dbakl 05-14-12 05:06 PM

It's threaded English with Campagnolo rear dropouts... doesn't seem to need anything French.

dbakl 05-14-12 05:08 PM

Maybe I'll makeup a name for it, and design my own decals...

unterhausen 05-14-12 05:17 PM

those Campagnolo vertical dropouts were crude stampings, that's why they are so rare. Very few people wanted stamped dropouts on a nice bike. If Campagnolo had come out with some nice forged vertical dropouts, we probably would have all used them back then.

roadrunner2012 05-14-12 05:49 PM

You can always return it if it's not what you want. That seems to be all the rage these days.

While that is a nice deal, $77 to pack and ship a frame that size within the continental US is high. Just shipped one from SC to CA, a tad larger than that one, for $30.

Very well packed too I might add.

Yeah, but the frame was only $58., I wasn't complaining...
