Is this a PX10?

I don't know much about peugeot, but I like the PX10. Saw this one for sale. He says it is 60s. How often do you see one of these in your size (25" frame)

Probably is one, but the head tube looks short in that photo for a 25" frame.

I believe that is a PX10 and it looks like the 60 decals. A picture of the entire bike would be really useful.

Here is a view of the full bike. He is taking offers on it. I made one which he thought was reasonable, but in a week who knows. I am also looking at another Bob Jackson frame. It never rains, but pours.

Thanks

Looks like it's got a Campagnolo Record or later-model Stronglight crankset: wouldn't be original equipment.

The bar end shifters, no brooks, campy headset and side pull non-mafac brakes are not original either. Perhaps better. I love the lug work and the fact that Merckx probably rode one around this vintage.

Late sixities. How often do I see one? Pretty much daily:

What is the price?

Sidepulls prolly not better than Mafacs IMO.

That is a beauty, btw.

300 well short of value for the frame alone from that period. I paid 400 for mine but that was years ago. I've since seen the late sixties ones go for north of a grand.

Good luck. If you get it, that is an extreme deal.

neurocop 05-10-12 11:22 PM

Looks like a PX10, but there are anomalies...the Reynolds 531 sticker is in the seat tube, consistent with a pre-1974 bike. 1974+ PX10s had the sticker on the down tube. The Stronglite crank looks like a 99. Pre-74 PX10s came with SL 93's. That's just my opinion.

I don't follow your logic. How is a seat tube Reynolds decal on a sixties frame an anomaly?

It looks like most of the components have been changed to Italian.

The owner must be built an orangutan by the looks of that jammed-down saddle and long-reach stem.

rootboy 05-11-12 06:11 AM

If you can get that for 3 to 400, then do so. I don't happen to agree with a previous post regarding value, but I'm sort of out of touch on that subject. A thousand dollars for any PX-10 seems ridiculous to me. However, with all the Record parts on that bike, especially the crank and brakes, it certainly would be worth picking up for your offer or a bit more, IMO.

rootboy 05-11-12 06:21 AM

EDIT: after looking a bit more closely, you might want to up your offer some. The owner could part out that bike and do pretty well.
Super Record levers with original hoods in what looks to be good condition.
Campy Record brakes.
Campy Record crank with SR rings?.
Nuovo Record rear derailleur?
Campy Record hubs, maybe?
A nice pile-O-stuff.
BTW, check the dropout derailleur hanger to see if it has been tapped out to accept that rear derailleur. I suspect is has. That might affect the value of the frame a bit. Still, a nice package if you can get it for 5 bills or less.

Grand Bois 05-11-12 07:05 AM

If that's a Nuovo Record rear derailer, the frame must have been modified to accept it. It involves much more than tapping the derailer mount. The hanger has to be reshaped to give clearance and form a stop. It destroys the collector value of the frame. Collectors won't consider the replacement of the French parts with Italian to be an upgrade, either. It doesn't effect its value as a rider, though. My PX10 also has all Italian components because that's the way I want it.

Hi rootboy,
I thought it was all campy. I wasn't sure about the break levers. The dropout mod is good to know. Thanks for the details. I was thinking about upping the offer too. It seems like too nice a bike to let go.

Hi Grand Bois,
I agree with your point of view regarding rider's choice. I prefer campy. It is also good to know that it is not as collectable as I thought, due to the mods.

I got a bit more history about the bike. It was raced and has initials "CFK" on the top tube near the seat.

Late sixties ones clear a grand easily if in nice shape. I've see them go above two.

Early sixties ones go for even more.

Seventies are about four to six hundred dollars as a rule.

I follow these pretty regularly and Pogues' assessment seems right-on to me. I would only add that the less common colors often command considerable premiums - even on the 70's issue bikes.

I just meant that the Reynolds frame sticker location is consistent with pre-1974 PX-10's (and the Inoxidable sticker confirms that it is a Pug 531 frame); the "anomalies" are the later components for this vintage frame. The fork rake is also consistent with pre-74 PX-10's. And I want to add that the later components are excellent "upgrades." This looks like a great bike, and is certainly worth $500-600.
