Old fork on a new frame?
So I bought this Rodriguez frame a little while ago with the intent of 650B-ing it. Problem is that the carbon fork can really only go to 35ish mm. Down the line, i'd like to get wider tires. I'll ride it as is for now with 32mm Maxy Fasty tires, but would like to get a proper steel fork for it down the line. This is all complicated by the 1" head tube (and that I also want to go threadless on this). I would have to get the fork painted so buying a tange fork will cost around $250-$300 in total after the paint. I was thinking about buying a threaded steel fork that came off of a big trek (like 60cm), chopping off the threads, and running it threadless. This way, I can get a nice lugged steel fork with clearances and braze-ons for under $150.
Note: I have not measured A-C distance/rake yet, but just throwing this idea out there. What do you guys think? Pic of the Rodriguez below: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-U...640/IMG120.jpg |
I think you should start looking in your LBS and COOPs for a fork. You might get lucky and find a nice chrome fork with lots of steerer.
