Threaded - Threadless Stem Adapter Question:
 

I'd like to move to a "threadless" stem on my '83 Paramount, basically for the convenience, selection and future proofing they offer.

Can anyone point me to a nice threaded - threadless stem adapter? The ones I've fould look pretty cheesy and heavy. The one at Nashbar even has an iron wedge and several have a taper between the two sections making it hard to use spacers. Did any of the specialty/custom road/MTB manufacturers make one?

I use a VO unit. It's nice enough.

Nitto makes one. I've never seen one in person, but I'd expect it to be as nice as anything else that wears that name.

Profile Design is light weight and cheap. It works for me.

If you need huge, go with the one from Soma, it's definitely not light and not the prettiest, but I have both a black and a silver and my main goal with both was to get bikes that are probably too small to get the bars up near the saddle when I've got a lot of seatpost showing. And by huge, I mean I've probably got a good 6" or so of adapter between the stem and the headset.

Pictures of the VO look pretty. There was one that I saw that looked nice with a couple of spacers on it so that you couldn't really tell that it was an adapter. Don't remember which that one was.

Actually, I'm not looking for height. I just want a nice replacement for the quill stem that is light and bombproof.

I have a nice Cinelli 1" quill to 1" threadless....yes 1" threadless. I was using it with a 1" threadless Cinelli Ti Grammo stem but sold the stem about a month ago. This thing is pretty darn light and well made.

Really? Any pics? Someone at a shop in So jersey was going to sell/give me one but he unfortunately closed down before he could dig it up for me.

I don't think any of the custom builders made them, unless it was special order for a customer, they would have simply made the bike with a threadless fork.
I have a quite a few adapters and I think for looks, esp if extra height is not a concern, the Profile is one of the best.
