Tomassini Super Prestige

Hey guys and gals I just picked up a Tomassini Super Prestige from a friend. When I got it I knew it was a rare bike but I still had full intentions of restoring it. The bike has updated components it has the Shimano Santo series parts. and a Sugino GFL aluminum crank set. I plan to refurbish the parts as I have never seen them before. Now the thing I am worried about is the paint. The bikes I have seen that are Tomassini are peral white or blue. Some are yellow and blue. Mine is not. It is Peral white with blue fading paint that has stars. Very much like the American flag. My question is if I should paint it... I will post pics later. I don't want to ruin it if it is rare.

Welcome!

I wouldn't repaint a Tommasini.

Period.

Let's see some pics though before I say much else.

Post those pics. :)

Tommasini bikes have some pretty colorful and cool paint schemes.

Most bikes should not be repainted or even touched up. Instead of increasing, repainting more often than not lessens the value of a bike.

My 1984 Tommasini Prestige has a fish net pattern, pretty fancy when compared to anything else in my little, and ever changing, collection of vintage road bicycles...

It needs some TLC!

Get out a toothbrush and your favorite, non-abrasive mild cleaner and have at it.

No way I would repaint that bicycle.

Mine was way worse than yours and this is what's underneath waiting for you.

Thanks.

So will yours!

I dilute Simple Green and get it on and off quickly.

Some folks use it straight, but I won't.

I love your paint scheme btw.

May be a team frame. I would contact Barb at Tommasini and ask her.

i am a big fan of repainting frames, just something i enjoy doing, but i would leave that alone. just as gomango advised, clean and ride. very nice bike. enjoy

Ok I'll do that. Is there markings some where that will indicate it's year?

On the bottom bracket.

Still, I would contact Tommasini. They have been helpful with all of mine throughout the years.

Just google Tommasini, get the contact info, email them a pic or two along with the code on the bottom bracket.

They should be able to tell you a fair amount of info.

Btw Are you leaving the bike as is, or are you going to update components if I may ask?

Looks like a fun project waiting to happen.

Beautiful bike, be sure to tell us how it rides.

Quite a find. A stunner.

Andycapp 06-03-12 07:31 PM

Awesome find! Love the paint, I kinda wonder if it a team bike as well, it's pretty "ALL-AMERICAN" for an Italian. Maybe Tommasini can shed some light on it, I keep meaning to e-mail them my self. Do clean her up and please post in the "Tommasini Lounge".

I love it! It would be a sin to repaint it. I would use the funds for a nice campy group. There is a centaur group on velobase that may suit it nicely.

mapleleafs-13 06-03-12 07:49 PM

I would repaint this and put a Canadian color scheme :D

Nah. If I was going to repaint it, -- BUT I WOULDN"T!!!! -- I'd just do green, white, and red for Italy.

flash2070 06-03-12 08:48 PM

It is a beauty, and, and I know it rides like one too! I have a blue one. Mine needs a repaint too, but would never do it. To me, the ride is just superb, and that is what's more important! Congratulations again, excellent find!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I plan to keep it as is. As for components I am going to clean what's on there as they are quite nice. It has Shimano Santo components everywhere. The crank set is Siguno GFL which I will remove the scratches and polish. I plan to polish the chrome on it and ride it. The paint is chipped by the seat post... Should I event touch it up? I do want to get matching wheels as they aren't at the moment!

czum09 06-03-12 10:03 PM

gomango- I just saw your bike in the Tomassini thread and I must say it is very well done, beautiful.

Is it chromed underneath the paint?

Thank you.

I did like her "looks" better with 10 speed Chorus on her, but that's destined for another project.

czum09 06-03-12 10:37 PM

^I like the way it looked in that picture. I love the red with the subtle decals. Maybe I just like loud colors on road bikes!

Yes it is chromed underneath the paint

czum09 06-11-12 08:52 AM

Does anyone have contact info for tommasini or should I just call them?

Bought a new front wheel :)
