39 year Gran Sport makeover

This bike isn't the lightest one in the fleet, or the fastest, or the most valuable. But, notwithstanding some rough treatment over the years, I have a real soft spot for it, as I bought it new and it was the bike that taught me to like bikes. So I decided to give it a makeover in honor of its 39th birthday. Enough words, now for some pictures.

The frame, fork and crankset are all that's left of the original.

Frame/fork: 1973 Raleigh Gran Sport, powder coated RAL 6019 by JJ Powdercoating in Zion, IL (reasonable and recommended)
Crankset: Stronglight 93 (original)
Pedals: Look
RD: Cyclone 1st Gen.
FD: Cyclone 1st Gen(?)
Shifters: Suntour barcons/Raleigh branded
Hubs: Campagnolo Gran Sport
Rims: Super Champion Gentleman clincher
Tires: Panaracer Pasela, 28mm
Seatpost: 3ttt (I think)
Saddle: Brooks Swift
Stem: SR
Bars: Nitto 135, orange Tressostar tape with amber/clear shellac
Calipers: Weinmann CP
Levers: Diacompe Aero Gran Compe

Ron Boi at RRB Cycles fixed a mashed seat lug, and I had him add a cable guide for the FD.

Thanks to Robbie for the pedals and dbakl for the 531 decal.

excellent refurb.
Some of those older Raleigh's do ride well. Love my 72 SuperCourse.

I really like it, great job. The Reynolds decal looks like the real deal... is it an old unused decal or just really convincingly made?

The gold lining and white on the seat stay caps looks awesome, did you do it? The colors and parts look French to me, how does your old Brit bike feel about that?

The decal came from dbakl. He told me it was silkscreened.

That's actually just light hitting the stay cap. I thought about filling it, but figured that would look best if the headtube were painted, seat tube striped, and so on. I decided to go plain for now, other than the lug lining, which I did with Testors enamel and a crow quill.

The bike hasn't complained to me yet but maybe that's just British manners. It's a multi-national frankenbike for sure.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words!

Thanks! That's awfully high praise, coming from you. It's powder coated, RAL 6019.

Fabulous color!

Yes, I printed those in my college silkscreen class as a project about 1972.

No kidding! Do you remember how you registered the colors so well? I only have a single frame, so it's harder to get colors to register without leaks.

Not original? Same as original?

Anyway, you kept the most essential parts to preserve the Gran Sport's identity; the Nitto's are a nice echo of the classic GB Randonneur bars..

You are correct; the calipers are not original but the same. I spaced out on those.

Well, my first job out of high school was in a silk screen shop. Its a little trial and error at first, but basically you tape the positive film for that color on your stock, fitting the previous colors, then align that under the screen and place your guides. Then adjust as needed once you start printing.
